Dubai: Covid leads Emirates, Etihad suspend UAE-UK flights temporarily

Dubai, Jan 30: After UK announced the suspension of direct flights from the UAE, the Emirates and Etihad have announced that passenger services would be suspended between Dubai and all the UK points from Friday January 29.

On its official website, the Emirates, announced that flights to Birmingham, Glasgow, London and Manchester will be suspended from Friday. The last flight to the UK will reach London Heathrow 3.12 pm UAE time on Friday, just less than two hours before the suspension came into force.

Subsequently, Etihad also announced the suspension of direct flights between Abu Dhabi and UK airports. However, those who have already booked their tickets can travel when the flight service restarts, the Abu Dhabi-based airline said on its website.

All direct flights to the UK that were scheduled to arrive at their destination after 1.00 pm UK time are cancelled, the Dubai airport announced in its official account. It also advised passengers who have booked travel on those flights not to go to the airport and contact their airlines for rescheduling the journey. However, those with residence rights in the UK may still travel to the country through intermediate points, the airport said, adding that they should check about the travel requirements on the UK government website.
