Media Release

Kuwait, May 20: The parishioners of Belman Welfare Association Kuwait (BELWAK), along with their families and friends, celebrated the feast of their patron, Saint Joseph the Worker, for the seventh consecutive year with lot of fanfare. A spirit of joy permeated through the crowd that had gathered on the feast day at the Don Bosco School Auditorium here on Friday May 7, 2010.

BELWAK president, Jerome D'Souza, welcomed the guest of honour, Fr John Harry D'Souza, sponsors, Harold D'Souza, Lawrence Pinto, Baby Venissa and Vianna Pinto. Social activist, Louis Rodrigues, and prominent well wishers, Francis Menezes and Harry Edward D'Souza, were also extended a warm welcome.

Earlier, Vinitha D'Souza led the gathering through a thanksgiving prayer. Joint secretary, Johnson Almeida, read the annual report. This report contained details of the notable works carried out by BELWAK over the past year in aid of the poor and the needy. Fr Harry, together with BELWAK's committee members, cut the festive cake, an outward sign of sharing the sweetness and happiness with one and all.

Charismatic preacher, Fr John Harry D’Souza, who was the guest of honour for the day, delivered the festive message. The highlights of his message were a reflection on the life of Saint Joseph the Worker. The gospel of St Mathew describes Saint Joseph as the ‘just man’. Fr Harry applauded the efforts put in by Belman Welfare Association Kuwait for the welfare of the society at large through their charitable initiatives, and prayed that BELWAK would continues to tread the path it has chosen, for many more years to come.

A slew of entertainment programmes followed, and the audience thoroughly enjoyed each of them. Folk dances, mimicry, skits and jokes by United Mangaloreans Kuwait (UMK), were both funny and entertaining. The solo dances presented by child artistes, Baby Jane D’Sa, Baby Danica Monteiro, and Baby Jolita Fernandes, were excellent. Also entertaining was the performance of Vinitha D’Souza and group. The games organized on the occasion, for both the children and the adults, were fun-filled as well. DJ Mario's music captivated the gathering till the very end.

Since inception, every year, BELWAK has been bringing to the limelight, the achievements of both men and women, who have selflessly contributed to the well-being of the society.  This day, BELWAK honoured with a momento, a well deserved lady, Helen D’Souza of Mukamar/Belman parish, the moral support extended by her to the impoverished people in Kuwait, and also for her service towards the community at-large. Also honoured on the occasion was John Fernandes, for his continuous and unwavering support for the betterment of the community.

President, Jerome D'Souza, traditionally offered the jar of water as a call for one and all to come and feast (lunch). Fr Harry thanked God Almighty for his bountiful gifts to the humankind in his prayer. Soon after lunch, Raffle Draw was conducted by BELWAK’s ex-president, Clifford D'Souza. Consultant, Francis Menezes, continued with the spot games and also conducted Housie Housie.

Vice president, Anil Nazareth, proposed vote of thanks. He thanked the sponsors, guests, and all the committee members for their team effort in staging an impressive festive celebration.

The talented Jayson Lasrado was at his usual best as the compere of the feast day celebration.
