Bantwal, Apr 27: Newly married 21-year-old woman was found hanging from a beam of the well at Sajipa Nadu, Jakribettu in the taluk on Tuesday April 27.

The deceased has been identified as Fathimath Zohra (21), wife of Hameed (26) here, who is employed in a wood industry at Konaje. The incident came to light when the neighbours found the body hanging in the morning. Zohra was married on January 30, about three months ago and parents of the victim now allege that the incident is a murder in demand for dowry.














Zohra’s relatives claim that Hameed not only harassed her demanding additional dowry, but recently also demanded gold jewels from Zohra’s parents. “It is a cold-blooded murder by Hameed, who killed her and later hanged her,” parents alleged.

A case has been registered and Hameed is now in custody of Bantwal rural police.

    Brilliant and simple comment from Pundalik Kamath, Mainpal as well as Jawar D'Souza, M'lore/Doha. Nowadays girls require proper education. These people only treat women's as ATM machine good only to produce childrens. For life long womens should only depend upton there husbands whatever problem occured and at last last chance only suicide which is afterall considered to be 'evil act'.     To stop these dowry menace and killing, may it be any religion the important thing is to educate your children, then they will know the value of life this is the main solution. Man's avarice for money has led to all this. A poor girl has lost her life we dont know how proper investigation by the authorites will reveal the truth. If it is a murder case the culprit should be hanged untill he dies, so no one in future will try to commit such a crime. May god rest her soul in peace.

    It's due to lack of education to the girls within the community. Mostly girls are marrying before reach to puberty. Give them chance to stand on there own to face the modern society. Not at all following one's own religion wherein boys should give dowry to girls but here everything different following other religion. Very sad to hear.

    Mr.Badruddin..Your comment gives feeling that Zohra committed suicide. Poor girl might have been killed. I like Ashraf Habibi's comments "IT IS THE INNER BEAUTY THAT MATTERS AND NOT THE JEWELLERY" Very true.I thought dowry system and killings are only in Hindu religion.But this article proved me wrong. May be very small percentage of dowry deaths in Muslim communities in India.

    There is no caste system or dowry in the West Indies. My grandparents left all these behind when they went there. India is emerging as the world superpower and yet this kind of thing is happening there. If it is a dowry issue, then it is up to the men who can eliminate this menace. You marry for love and relationship with God as witness during the marriage ceremony, not for money. I, therefore, call upon the men of India to march in solidarity against this, set an example, and demand an end to it. Would you want your daughter to end up this way?

    I think it's an indirect murder. Husbands might have embarrassed her for more dowry which led her to take this step. Dowry exists only in India whereas in arab coutries guys have to give meher to girls and only in our country, it is like this, guys wants to start a business or built a house with the girl's money. Dowry can be eradicated only if the rich status of the society stops demanding dowry. Then only all stage of people will follow. In future, we should look the guys who demands dowry in a low, third class level and shouldn't keep any value for them in the society, what do you say guyzzzzzzzzzzzz

    A very wrong decision from mrs.Zohra(21yrs),though many cases of these kinds has put front to media and tried to give hopes, but still..this was not a solution and shes left a wrong message.. If it was her tough days..she could have had a new life after taking a strong decision informing her parents.The culprit if found guilty then shud be severly punished.Parents shud be alert about daughters, her life after marriage , rather wash their hands.A request to media and social workers please make programs against dowry, harrasments,tortures on ladies..to avoid zohra's decision and face the scenario..RIP Zohra.
    This is not the first case but still may be last or be controlled.

    Very sad and highly disturbing. Such cases of demand for dowry etc. should not be tolerated in the modern times. I hope the Police authorities will institute a proper enquiry as to the cause, and if found that the girl was murdered, as alleged by the girl`s parents, the culprit should be handed out severe punishment.

    It is really crude & shocking..Bread winning is the responsibility of a man.Hameed could have led a peaceful life with whatever meagre income he had.

    In nature there is enough for everybody's need.The greed led to this.It is the inner beauty that matters not the jewellary.

    It looks like a murder and nothing else. A newly wed bride of 3 months will not comitt suicide at all. Try the suspect and if found guilty hand in public including his relations who gave a helping hand in carrying out this crime.
