Dubai: Mangalore Konkans' Singing Contest Draws Huge Response

Dubai, Apr 27: The ‘Konkani Prathiba Spordo’ organized by Mangalore Konkans, Dubai, has received tremendous response from music enthusiasts from across the UAE, and about 150 contestants will exhibit their singing talent on Friday April 30, at Dubai GEM School.

The specialty of the competition is that six contestants each from the men’s and women’s category will qualify for one of the biggest reality shows in Konkani history ‘Gulf Voice of Mangalore’ where participants from six Gulf states will try their luck for the coveted title and cash prize of Rs1lac each.

“This year’s event has 30 percent more entries in GVM preliminary category and also in other categories such as children’s category and duet singing.We have received more entries for all the categories than in the previous year”, said Valerian Peris, co-ordinator of the event.

“Unfortunately, we had to reject at least 30 applicants who registered after the deadline date”, he lamented.

All the participants in the men’s and women’s category are requested to report not later than 8.45am am as the event will start sharp at 9.00 am. (No excuses for lateness will be entertained due to overwhelming number of entries and lack of time)

The children’s category as well as all others will have event reporting at 2.45 pm and contest will start at 3.15 pm.

“We are running short on time, so we seek the support of all the participants as well as their supporters. We have received about 60 entries for men’s and women’s category (GVM audition), about 50 entries in the children’s category, and about 40 entries in duets, group, and family category”, said Peris.

Complimentary lunch will be served to all participants and the audience. The organizers have requested the support of all by timely arrival so that the event can begin on time.
