Mangalore : Three Carmelite Deacons Ordained as Priests

by Stephen Alwyn Pereira OCD

Mangalore, Apr 19: Three Deacons belonging to Carmelite Order, Dn. Joseph Pinto, Dn. Anil Prakash Tauro and Dn. Vinod Lobo were ordained as priests in the Year dedicated to the Priests. Dn. Joseph Pinto was ordained as Priest by Most Rev. Bernard Moras, Archbishop of Bangalore in his hometown Tumkur on 18th April, 2010 and Most Rev. Aloysius Paul D’Souza, Bishop of Mangalore conferred the Holy Orders of Priesthood on Dn. Anil Prakash Tauro and Dn. Vinod Lobo on 19th April, 2010 at the Infant Jesus Shrine, Mangalore ,

About 60 priests concelebrated at the Eucharistic celebration and a good number of faithful took part in the Liturgy with devotion.

Bishop Aloysius in his homily explained the significance and importance of the priests in the life of the Christian faithful and expressed his happiness and gratitude to God for giving three new priests to the Church in this Year for the Priests. Fr. Stephen Pereira conducted the Liturgy.

The newly ordained priests: Fr. Joseph Pinto hails from Tumkur. He is the only son among  six children to his parents. After working as Headmaster for many years in the Primary school he realized His call and joined the Carmelite Order. Fr. Prakash hails from Kulshekar Parish and Fr. Vinod Lobo from Belthangady parish.

After the Ordination ceremony which lasted for nearly two hours, a short felicitation programme followed. Rev. Fr. Archibald Gonsalves, Carmelite Provincial Superior honoured the newly ordained  Priests and thanked their parents for sacrificing their sons to the garden of Carmel. Fr. Alwyn Sequeira compered the program.

It is the time for ordinations. Recently Our Bishop Aloysius had ordained nine priests including Father Alistan Fernandes and today we read the good news that the harvest is not over. I join scores of people in congratulating the newly ordained carmalite Fathers.

Indeed The Carmalite Fathers are doing a great job every where. They live an exemplary life and are dedicated to the good work in many places in India and abroad.
