It's Splitsville and Heartbreak in Hollywood

New York, Apr 15 (IANS): It seems to be a year of heartbreaks and breakups in Hollywood with an increasing number of celebrity couples like Cheryl-Ashley Cole and Kate Winslet-Sam Mendes heading for Splitsville.

"Girls Aloud" star Cheryl Cole announced that she is splitting from husband and footballer Ashley Cole after reports of him cheating on her with five women surfaced in February.

The pair met in 2004 and got engaged a year later after the footballer proposed to her in Dubai. It was followed by a lavish wedding in 2006 in Hertfordshire, Britain.

Hollywood comedian Jim Carrey has also ended his five-year relationship with actress Jenny McCarthy recently. He did not reveal the reason behind their split.

"McCarthy and I have just ended our five-year relationship. I'm grateful for the many blessings we've shared and I wish her the very best," the actor wrote on his Twitter page.

The separation of British actress Kate Winslet and her filmmaker husband Sam Mendes came as a surprise in March because they have been considered an ideal show business couple for many years.

Winslet, 34, married the successful British filmmaker and stage director in a Caribbean wedding in 2003. They have a six-year old son, Joe, while Winslet has a daughter, Mia, from her first marriage to film director Jim Threapleton.

A statement by London law firm Schilling said: "Kate and Sam are saddened to announce that they separated earlier this year." It further said that the split was "entirely amicable and by mutual agreement" and both parties were fully committed to the future joint parenting of their children.

Close on the heels of Winslet, "Blind Side" actress Sandra Bullock split from her husband Jesse James who allegedly cheated on her with a model.

The Oscar winning actress had walked out on James last month after allegations of his infidelities surfaced.

Actress Jennifer Love-Hewitt also parted ways with actor beau Jamie Kennedy last month. The "I Know What You Did Last Summer" star said that the split was amicable and she is now looking forward to moving on with her life.

"We've parted as friends. There's no anger, there's no upset, there's no enemies. It's been totally fine. It's really a testament to who he is and to who I am. We're both grown-ups," she said.

Dennis Hopper, who has been diagnosed with terminal prostate cancer, filed for divorce from his wife of 14 years, Victoria, in January, citing irreconcilable differences. They have a seven-year-old daughter Galen.

In February, Aussie actress Abbie Cornish and actor Ryan Phillippe announced that they were separating after being with each other for four years. Cornish's spokesperson confirmed the split, saying, "Abbie ended the relationship with Ryan and she moved out of their home."

Their split came months after tabloid speculations that Phillippe was being unfaithful to Cornish - regularly hitting the nightclubs and being linked to other women.

Then, troubled singer Amy Winehouse's relationship with ex-husband Blake Fielder-Civil has once again hit a rough patch and she doesn't want him to move into her new home.

According to sources close to the 26-year-old singer, Winehouse has told Fielder-Civil, 31, that their relationship is over and she does not want him to move into her new home in Camden, North London.

"It looks like the end of the road for Amy and Blake. She has told him she has fallen out of love with him. She is waiting to move into her new house and she has made it clear Blake will not be moving in with her," said sources.

The couple married in 2007 but divorced last year. They rekindled their relationship just weeks later and there was even talk that they planned to remarry.

In December last year, Reese Witherspoon parted ways with Jake Gyllenhaal.

What is common among most of the splits is that the male partners were cheating on their spouses or girlfriends.
