Mangalore, Apr 12: “The superintendent of police’s special squad arrested 12 persons and foiled a murder attempt on an advocate planned as revenge for the murder of another lawyer last year. The group had also intended to kidnap a jeweller from the city”, informed Gopal B Hosur, inspector general of police (IGP), on Monday April 12.

Speaking at a press conference, he said that the arrest of 12 people had revealed their conspiracy to kill a practicing advocate in the city in retaliation for last year’s murder of another advocate.

“The accused were waiting for their target near his office on the morning of Monday April 12 and the arrests were made based on information obtained from a member of the same gang”, added Hosur.

“The arrests have successfully prevented a major disturbance to the law and order in the district”, he said, adding that the murder could have disturbed communal harmony also.

“The gang had also intended to kidnap a jeweller and demand of Rs 25-30 lac as ransom and if he had failed to arrange the money, he would have been killed and thrown into the river or a thick forest”, said Hosur.

The arrested are gang members of noted criminals Madoor Yoosuf and Asgar Ali.

The 12 include 3 from Maharashtra state while the others are from the city and around.

They are Abdul Nazeer alias Sajji alias Lambu Nazeer (34) resident of Harekala, Narayana Salyan (46) resident of Madoor near Kotekar, Lokesh Amin (25), Abhishek Amin (24), resident of Bikarnakatte, Abdul Naseer (26), resident of Someswara, Sameer Hamza (25), resident of Someswara, Mohammad Jamaluddin (29), resident of Kotekar, Abdul Hakeem (33) and Abdul Azeem (25), residents of Madani Nagar in Munnoor,  Rohan Firoz Khan (21), resident of  Bandra west in Mumbai, Mangesh Aravind Kule (21), resident of Chembur west in Mumbai, and Mohammad Faisal Ibrahim Sheik (28), resident of Poopadikkal in Karkala and presently residing in Mumbai.

It is very heartening to observe that Our Police Force under the leadership of IGP Gopal Hasur ably supported by The Supt. of Police Dr. A.S.Rao are doing a fine job. They have in the past too given an excellent account of themselves and in this context the citizens of Mangalore can breathe a sigh of relief as they are in good Hands. Having said this it is also pertinent to record that these two officers have their other side in terms of management. The Officers and The Police Force under these stalwarts are happy that they are let free to function in the best interests of The City. It is also reported that both The IGP and SP. are very sensitive to the needs of the police force and are kind to them otherwise.

Is a good feeling to know that the people of Mangalore are in good hands.

If more such people remain in jail for some years, extortion gangs will eventually perish. As of now there are many earning easy money by just phone calls. Many businessmen are quietly suffering without making noise! Need of the hour is long term tenure for our brave police team of DK.
