Daijiworld Media Network - London (SP)

London, Apr 12: The annual general body meeting of the Mangalorean United Konkani Association (MUKA) was held on Sunday April 4, 2010, at Bramcote Memorial Hall, Nottingham here, to elect new office bearers for the year 2010-2011.

The new committee, which was elected for the year 2010-2011, consists of the following members.

President: Jeevan Menezes
Vice president: Joyce Aranha
Secretary: John Peter Fernandes
Treasurer:  Pius Rasquinha
Cultural Secretary: Stany Sequeira
Communication Coordinator: Vincent D’Souza
Liturgical Secretary: Deepak Alvares
Spiritual Animator: Fr Olvin Veigas SJ

Additional Committee Members: Prakash Mendonca, Condard Aranha and Jerald Alvares.

The outgoing president of MUKA, Sunil D’ Cunha, thanked all the members, especially his team, for the support extended in organizing various events during the year. Joy Pinto presented the finance report. Sidney Pereira conducted the election. The newly elected president thanked all those present and the outgoing team under the leadership of Sunil D’ Cunha. He also sought active support from the members and expressed his desire to make MUKA a stronger association of Konkani-speaking community in the United Kingdom. The meeting concluded with a thanksgiving hymn.

Every year, MUKA has been organizing various programmes for the Konkani-speaking people and to their families. Apart from a summer outing in August, Christmas and Easter also are celebrated with much gusto. Even though the active membership of MUKA comprises only the residents from Nottingham and Mansfield, people from other cities like Leicester, Birmingham, Manchester, Bristol and London participate in the events. MUKA has requested those who are in UK or visiting UK during these times, to contact it through any of the MUKA members or through Jeevan Menezes (president), Ph: 07877179610 or Vincent Dsouza (Communication Co-coordinator), Ph: 07958484433.
