Udupi, Apr 11:
As an ideal to society where caste discrimination is prevalent, a rare form of inter-caste wedding took place at Mukyaprana Guru Raghavendra Mandir, Jalanjaru, near Kaup here, on Friday April 9.

A young man from upper caste Brahmin family tied knot with a Devadiga community girl, in the presence of both the family members, putting aside all the conservative rules.

The married couple, Ramamurthy Bhat and Latha are residents of Kemmundel Kaup.  Ramamurthy is working as an electrician and Latha is employed in a private company.  The five years of eternal love between the two resulted in wedding after members from both the families gave their consent.

Ramamurthy was able to convince his family members without much effort. He said that their easy permission to the wedding was quite surprising to him. “In future, we will live happily respecting each other’s casts”, he added

Latha is also very pleased with the way the wedding proceedings have taken place with the blessings and well wishes from both the family members.

Almost all the relatives of the couple made it to the wedding ceremony. The friends of Ramamurthy were especially supportive and celebrated the occasion with joy.

Subrahmanya Acharya, priest who performed the rituals of the marriage, said that there is a shortage of girls in Brahmin community and well settled but less educated boys in the community are not finding suitable match. Hence such weddings gain more importance.

He also added that inter- caste marriages are not so opposed in the community as it was in the earlier days which is a good sign.

Madhava Aithal, K P Acharya, Manohar Rao, Nagarthna Rao were among the seniors from Brahmin community who blessed the couple on the occasion.

They say “marriages are made in heaven” but certainly the castes are made on earth, this wedding is a tie between heaven and earth, between love and division, between good and evil, between upper and lower. Long live this wedding as a mark of genuine and authentic love. Long live Rama and Latha.

Devadiga is a caste, and these people are allowed to work inside the temples unlike other shoodra castes.
Therefore upper castes do not treat them as strangers.Recently as daijiworld reported GSB handicapped boy married a devadiga girl in Karkal. There are few instances where i know that devadiga boys have married Brahmin girls. So no surprise to me.

A VERY GOOD CHANGE IN THE SYSTEM. So called Upper Caste should have done this long back. They should have treated Dalits also in the same manner. Finally Gandhiji's dream is becoming true. Not 100% .But it is a begining. Congratulations and Happy mariied Life. Let everyone start and change the bloody caste system of India. Good Luck

Congratulation, this is great event, First time in my knowledge there was not a inter cast marriage celebrated like an arranged marriage? This is really positive development in Hindu society, what is there in cast and sub cast when all the Hindus worship same God?
These social changes will bring lot of positive spirit in the Hindu society and better social values.
This never would have happen with the upper cast leaders blessing, we have to congratulate such leaders to bringing such a great changes in the society. Those progressive leaders have to show the path to the lower cast people and bring changes in the upper caste society to accept this type relationship.
This is really bridging the society.

This type inter cast and inter religion system only eradicate the cast system in the Indian society, this is already practiced by the upper cast people, never been objected, when it is coming to middle class and lower class this was always considered a social crime? This marriage has given a different perception on inter cast marriages and given positive indication for progressive future. This binding between the human relationships will abolish the cast and religious differences and the world better place to live with love and affection.

I sincerely wish both bride and bride groom a bless wedding, bring them lot of love and happiness throughout their wedded life.

This is not an intercaste marriage as a hindu girl married to a hindu boy. It's not a marriage between hindu, muslim or christians. Hindus are all same as all worship the same Gods and visit the same temples. Tomorrow a poojary, bhandary, billawa, moolya, ganiga or parawa can demand to become a poojary and we cannot deny him as all of them are hindus. We have to look at the big picture and have to be much more broad minded.

I also congratulate the families of the bride and bridegroom. They have set a good example for others. No conversion, no so called 'love Jihad' is a threat to Hinduism. The real threat is caste system. Mr. Bhat, you have set an heroic example to break this system and proved that love has no caste, no religion, no any barriers. Congratulations & Good luck Mr. & Mrs. Bhat.

At the first instance everything appears to be fine. when some misunderstanding between the couple or among the family members the first accusation they make is that of cast. the good will that has made the couple to enter into this marriage bond must also be there to live up to the commitment made during the marriage.

We are living in a century where everybody knows that there is only one caste prevalent and i.e. human caste. though we know in the mind level, heart to heart we still hold on to this. this marriage has happened only due to the love which is blind. people must come forward to make proposed marriages between caste. then only one can believe that the change has come in the society. hope this will happen....

Seldom to very seldom inter-caste marriages will not transform the structures of age old culture and traditions of caste systems deeply rooted in the society. This required very drastically determined social awareness and willingness among higher caste Hindus solemnly imperative without which the dogma and stigma will continue generations after generations. As a step forward in this regard I wish the couple a very happy married life.
