Kuwait, Apr 5: Sharq United was still rejoicing the thumping victory of KCWA Cricket Tournament in Kuwait and then as planned, the home teams – Sharq United Whites and Sharq United Blues geared up for a new challenge. This time for a home tournament and a very special one … the 13th Anniversary Trophy of the home club.

This eagerly awaited tourney was recently held the scenic Sharq United home ground in Sharq district right in the heart of Kuwait City surrounded by the country’s best business addresses and soaring high corporate offices of giant local and multinational institutions. The club is ever grateful to the authorities of Kuwait, who have kept this precious piece of land untouched only to add the most awaited weekend joy of cricketing action, which has been religiously followed for 13 good years.

Six teams lined up for a cracker of a cricket festival. Spouses of the cricketers along with children added total family atmosphere off the ground. However, on the turf … it was war of the titans of cricket clubs in Kuwait – a genuinely sporting war! The teams were:

Sharq United Whites
Sharq United Blues
Kuwait India Cricket Club A
Kuwait India Cricket Club B
Kirby Cricketers
Coastal Cricketers

Sharq United Patron Richard Nazareth declared the tourney open. After initial league matches and semi finals, Sharq United Whites and Kirby Cricketers were framed up for the grand finale. A large and enthusiastic crowd was kept in good cheer by the club management with refreshment and music. Caesars Group, Refreshment Trading Company, Gulf Insurance, Morris, Victor Martis, Edwin D’Souza and S.K. Mishra pitched in with various kinds of support to the club for this enjoyable tournament.

At the ground, it was serious business when Kirby Cricketers led by Singh put up 48 runs batting first in the allotted 10 overs. Sharq United Whites led by Arthur chased this total in 7.2 overs.

Sharq United Chairman - Alwyn Fernandes conducted the closing ceremony in the presence of Executive Committee members of the club. Alwyn thanked each and every individual present on the ground for the day-long event; the sponsers for their whole-hearted support and encouragement; and finally the players, who played the entire tournament with utmost discipline and sportsmanship spirit.

To sum-up, the Sharq United 13th Anniversary Tournament was yet another feather in the club's success cap!
