Inhuman : Dad, Stepmom Confine Girl to Shack for 5 Years

Inhuman : Dad, Stepmom Confine Girl to Shack for 5 Years

Sriranagpatna, Apr 3 (Deccan Herald) : In a heart rending incident of utter cruelty by her father and step-mother, a young woman has been condemned to live like an animal in a shack for the last five years in Alagud village.

Taking pity on Bhagya (26), a mentally deranged woman, who is denied even basic human dignity for the past five years, Mahesh and his friends exposed the cruelty meted out to her.

Bhagya is the daughter of Giriraju from his first wife Mahadevamma. After his second marriage to Meenakshi he shifted Bhagya into a shack next to his house. The only ‘facility' that they provide is to throw some stale‘food' in a plastic cover into the shack once in a while. Bhagya neither has had a bath nor a wash. She emits foul smell as she  answers nature’s calls in the same place.

Siddamma from the village said “ Meenakshi  did not take care of Bhagya and persuaded Giriraju to keep Bhagya in a shack”.

Mani, Bhagya’s younger sister, is married and begs to help her sister. “I am begging my father to get Bhagya treated. My step-mother cannot stand us and I do not have any facility in my in-law’s house to take care of my sister. Please help to get my sister treated,” she pleaded.

Rats and rodents live along with Bhagya in the shack. Needless to say countless flies and ants swarm her body. Yet no one from the village has come to her help.

Tahsildar N C Jagadish told Deccan Herald that he was unaware of the pathetic plight. When it was brought to his notice he assured that he would immediately visit the village and render all help to get her treated. “ I will also discuss with the officials concerned to provide her shelter”, he said.

Sad sad day for humanity....have all of us lost even the most basic human qualities?? I am sure no animal would want to be compared with humans anymore...hope the poor girl opens up at least one or two hearts to come and get her to live like a human being at least from now on. The parents should be photographed and put up as posters all over the area.

In India one thing is very strange that public have no concern for their fellow citizen. In traffic the driver will not allow the pedestrian to cross the road and a slow vehicle will not allow a speeding one to overtake his vehicle.
If a person is fallen on the drain or another suffering inside a confinement, the neighbourhood public will act as if that is none of their business.
Another famous case is, if some anti-social elements are molesting women or attacking an innocent person in front of them, they will neither defend the victim nor inform the matter to the police for immediate help.
We are so over populated country and competitive life style that we neither have value for other’s life nor care about other’s sufferings.

What type of a Father is this that he coulnd't treat his very own daughter in a better manner. Forget the stepmom she was a cruel lady to ruin the girls life, if someone can help the young girl and punish the father & mother for their cruelty for this treatment, I am sure no body would even like this to be done to your enenmy. it is really cruel to have such parents.

Could daijiworld request the reporter to give updates on these cases, to know if officials have acted or not. If not, we need citizens forums to seek justice for these hapless people. It is sad that people of the village did not approach anyone, nor the younger sister. Why and what is she begging now?

This is disgusting!!!Injustice.Who said she is poor ,it is her father n step mom wrote her fate by their devilish act. They both should be arrested n should be given stale food in jail. Both should regret for this.If today they r nt punished, then many more Bhagyas will be there outside thinking tht human rights will help n Govt wont do anything to them.So first they should be punished.

    Dear friends,

This kind of cruelty against human beings has been significantly reduced in the recent years with more and more healing and care houses coming into existence. The least the neighbors/villagers could possibly do is to refer these cases to such houses.

Very cruel and saddistic treatment to the child. The father of the child should be held responsible for this act as it is his responsibility to nourish the child, whether he got the child from his first or second wife.
When we have right to education in our constitution, why not right to living? I think we need to have associations to find out such maltreatmets in our State and expose them so that in future similar incidents do not occur.

God forgive that father for this crime and may he be treated first, as surely he is mentally deranged orelse no father can do this. Can her youth come back to her? But my question is, if she has a sister, why didnt she report or confide to someone the plight of her sister who suffered for so many years.

It is the duty of all the villagers as well as the concerned government officials to come forward and render all possible help to the victim who has gone through inhuman ordeal for so long. Moreover, it is equally imperative that the father and the stepmother should be meted out the severe punishment lest anyone in future should dare to do such cruelty to others. Poverty, if at all, is no justification for lapses and excuses.
