Mangalore, Apr 2: The International Orientation Centre (IOC) as well as the International Institute for Public Policy (IIPP) jointly and unanimously chose the late Wilfy Rebimbus for the Star of the Year  'Life Time Achievement' award for 2009-10.

Max Rasquinha, founder of IIPP, will bring this prestigious award personally to India soon to be presented to Meena Rebimbus in a ceremony to be organized in the city.

Speaking to daijiworld.com from Houston, USA, Rasquinha said that Wilfy had been selected for the award in commemoration and recognition of his contributions and dedicated services to his community during his lifetime.

The announcement coincides with the 68th birthday of the late singing legend which falls on Friday April 2.

The ‘Star of the Year’ award is conferred on candidates who have rendered outstanding service to the community. Last year, Walter Nandalike of Daijiworld had received this award for journalism, and Wilfy had been present at the award ceremony.

“The late Wilfy Rebimbus was a visionary who steadfastly followed the goal of electrifying the world of Konkani culture through his creative talent in music, lyrics, and stage plays. He presented about 250 ‘Wilfy Nites’ and put his God-given talent to full use, and in the process helped his family members and scores of others from the community to showcase their talents. Wilfy, known for his virtues of dignity and simplicity, helped many needy people through his caring attitude in a quiet and discreet way," added Rasquinha.

“Late Wilfy Rebimbus was a rare personality, whose untimely exit has resulted in a void and caused irreparable loss to the community,” he said.

The date of presentation of the award will be announced shortly by IIPP Centre Mangalore. “His legacy in the realm of music needs further recognition and IOC and IIPP, which have instituted this award, are planning to do many other things in memory of the unforgettable musical legend”, said Rasquinha.

Prominent personalities from various fields are expected to attend the presentation ceremony.
