Bangalore: BBMP Polls Marked by Missing Names in Voters' List

Bangalore, Mar28 (PTI): Protest over names missing from the voters' list marked the city corporation polls here today with a keen contest on the cards between ruling BJP, opposition Congress and JDS to gain control of the Bruhut Bangalore Mahanagara Palike.

The polls, due in 2006, are being held now after the corporation (then Bangalore Mahanagara Palike) was expanded from 100 wards to 198. In V V Puram agitated voters who found their names missing from their list took out a protest led by former mayor P R Ramesh.

In some wards, opposing party workers were engaged in a tussle over allegations of enticing voters or of proxy voting, while in some others, polling process was delayed due to malfunctioning of Electronic Voting Machines which was subsequently set right.

Celebrities including popular actor Puneet Raj Kumar turned up for voting. The ruling party is holding the polls as per the directions of the High Court after its reported attempts to postpone the polls failed.

A total of 1342 candidates were contesting in 198 wards. BJP is contesting in 197, Congress in 196 and JDS 195 wards.Around 30,000 police personnel today were deployed in the city to ensure law and order. Counting of votes will take place on April five.

Dear Mr. Nagesh Nayak, I love each and every person of this earth and do not hate anybody. You are also a good person but possessed by the evil and as long as the evil guides/possessed you will act just like an evil that is the reason you hate. What reward will you have loving only those who love you? If bjp is not keeping happy for at least some (as a show) who will cast votes for them? Only fundamentals and again they have to appease minorities. A very few minorities are helped means all the minorities are happy in bjp period. The pseudo’s are for everybody including you. No doubt if you hate they love you. I quote your one more comment “which fundamental are you talking . Is it italian I mean vatican.” Unquote. Indian born communal Minded Mrs Sushma Swaraj. She is happy because her husband was saved by Mr. L.K. Advani from the Hijacked plane from Nepal-punjab-kandhar

Today Suvarna TV 24/7 showed a live NO VOTE(VOTER ID) FOR RS 1000/= right in front of the police vehicle!!!!!This is mockery of democracy and I am under impression that these irragularities are taking place right under the presence of police personnel and EC officers.I have never seen before in a election like this distributing money, sari, liqour, watchs, sliver pendent ect ect that also in the HQ of our state!!! Where is EC officials? Is they were helpless or slient consent???This is not definetly free and fair election and if educated people remain indoor they should not be blamed.EC should look in to the matter very seriously else democracy will be in real danger.
