Mangalore: Volvo Buses Between City and Manipal in a Day or Two

Daijiworld Media Network – Mangalore (SP)

Mangalore, Mar 14: Karnataka State Road Transport Corporation (KSRTC) has got the permits it wanted to run Volvo buses between the city and Manipal. Decks have now been cleared for this service, which is expected to commence on Tuesday March 16, which happens to be Ugadi day, or the day later.

The Corporation had earlier been running six mini buses from here to Udupi, but for various reasons, this service did not last long. The permits of these buses have now been renewed. KSRTC officials said that they now are awaiting the inaugural of the service by a minister, so that regular services can commence.

Starting from 7.30 am every day, Volvo buses will leave State Bank and Manipal simultaneously with a gap of one hour each. The last bus will leave from both ends at 6.30 pm.

The government’s move to introduce Volvo buses on this route has drawn flak from the private bus operators here.  Because of the insistence of the transport minister, R Ashok, to begin this service, the service is becoming a reality.

A good move from KSRTC. But I dont think why a minister should come to Inaugrate this service..?? why cant KSRTC Officials or passengers do the same....Bringing a minister is a waste of resources..Second thing KSRTC should think about the timings..it will good if they start before 6.00 AM and continue till 11.00 pm at least.

The work done by transport minister Mr. R. Ashok all over Karnataka is much appreciated by most. Air conditioned Volvo busses will certainly give much comfort to the people of the twin districts. The frequency is minimal, however it can be increased as when the need arise.
People will certainly appreciate if he could start Volvo bus service with baggage area from Mangalore airport to Udupi, Manipal, Mangalore and Kundapur. Hope people will realize the need and advantage of saving fuel energy sooner.

Very good decision by the Govt. Hats of to our Transport Minister, Ashok. Gradually, more Buses should be introduced and fare should be kept to the minimum. In future, the services should extended up to Kundapura.

Good development. Now its time to prove their mettle by private operators. The motto must be Public service accompanied by decent profit making, not at all taking public for ride.Applicable to both Govt and Private sector.

Renaissance in public transportation. But should continue unceasingly. Why cant we install a strong corporation on the lines of BEST, Mumbai to take care of public transport systematically. Eliminate private transport and replace with public with Corporation managed by people. Lets, do it and improve ourselves.

Hope there is healthy competition between two.problem is major lobby and fund giver both official and unofficial for govt is private transport,so they will not kill the goose laying golden eggs.hope both survive. govt should also introduce non a c buses to help common man.and make sure they run even if some jokers call for bandh etc.

Private buses overload people throwing security to winds. if polticians of our district were real Men they would ve started local train service from byndoor to mangalore also.but that is if their intention is public service which is rare these days.

Good to know that these buses will be plying. I was surprised to note that the last bus leaves at 6.30PM.I think as the KSRTC is funded by the tax payer they should run buses atleast till 11pm(Leaving both places at 11PM)

Yes M.Pinto, you are correct. Why cant the common man, if not the DC, or SP or Mayor or Tashildar. SOme one local. Getting a minister again getting an appointment, with 100s of police quardoning off the roads again an inconvinece for public. also may be inconvience for the minister to come all the way, insead he can use this time for some useful work, bless by a phone call...

If KSRTC can prove themselves, then i guess private buses will be washed out from the roads very soon. There have been no safety features considered by these private buses. The drivers run them like a death machine, putting normal person life in danger.. Lets see who stays and who walks out in coming days.. All the best KSRTC

Introducing Volvo Buses between City and Manipal in a Day or Two is really welcome but what about the road conditon in between? The condition of the roads are so bad and pathetic which needs to be taken care first.

Now, real fun begins. Permit holders will try to sell their bus permits for any amounts if they can get....Altough entry market by govt is not easy once public demand maintained govt might add hundreds of buses... wait and see.

In the long run private permits have no value but surrender to govt.

Why wait for a minister or why should a minister inaugurate? Why can't it be a common man or a passenger who uses KSRTC services?
