Mangalore: Graduation day and Decennial finale of Fr Muller Medical College celebrated

Mangalore, Mar 13: “Graduates in the medical sector will face challenges in the health sector and need to research on various diseases, and be ready with the necessary skills to face challenges.” said Dinesh Trivedi, Union Minister of State for Health and Family Welfare, at the graduation ceremony and decennial finale of the medical college of Fr Muller Charitable Institutions on Saturday March 13.
Speaking on the occasion as chief guest, the minister said, “Graduates of the day have paramount opportunities to serve human kind in the country. There is a growing need to research on existing and new diseases.” he said.
“Medical students also need to keep in mind that they will face greater challenges in the future.
Rural areas in the country are facing various challenges in the health services and the medical professionals will need to serve the poor living in rural areas.” he opined.
“Medical professionals should concentrate on the rural areas where health care service is most required and a medical graduate should treat a minimum of 50 patients in rural areas annually which will be recognized as best service to mankind.” he said.
“The graduation ceremony is a rebirth to a graduate and his or her life to serve mankind begins. Everyone should believe it as God’s mission and must forget personal pain and comfort and put their knowledge and skills to practice.” he said
The Guest of honour Justice N Santhosh Hegde, Lokayukta of the State, said “graduates and students have to achieve their goals as a mission and should not keep their personal ambition ahead of service. They must not be disappointed when they fail to reach their goal, and not accept defeat.” he said.
`We are in a society where people are interested in accumulating wealth, from which springs in corruption and other bad practices. But medical graduates must think that service to society is more important than wealth. The youth and graduates should concentrate on achieving a hunger free, healthy and tearless society.” added Justice Hegde.
A total of 388 students were honoured with graduation certificates in GNM, B Sc Nursing, PCBSc, MSc, BSc(Radiology) BSc (Medical Laboratory Technology) MHA, MPT, BPT, MBBS and Post graduate medical courses.
MBBS first batch (1999) graduates and staff of the institution were also honoured during the function. Founder directors of the institution were felicitated by the guests on behalf the institution.
Chief Guest Dinesh Trivedi, guests of honour Justice N Santhosh Hegde, Alfredo Pires, Secretary of State for Natural resources, Democratic Republic of Timor Leste, presented merit certificates to the graduates. A research journal edited by Prof B P Sherra, Neurologist, and a Decennial Souvenir were also released during the programme.
The Bishop of Mangalore and ex-officio President of the Fr Muller Charitable institutions, Dr Aloysius Paul D souza presided over the function. The Director, Fr Patrick Rodrigues welcomed the gathering and presented the annual report.
