Mangalore, Mar 10: Tibetan Students’ Association of Regional Tibetan Youth Congress organized a peaceful rally in the city on Wednesday March 10, demanding independence from China for their motherland Tibet.

The procession started from Jyothi Circle and ended at Nehru Maidan. The members of the association demanded independence for Tibet which has been repressed by China from 1949. The marchers also focused on China’s violation of the 17-point agreement with Tibet.

The placards held by the marchers depicted China’s dictatorial policies in Tibet and said ‘people’s rights have been confiscated’ and ‘Tibet is not part of China’.

The peace procession was organized as part of the commemoration of the 51st anniversary of the Tibetan people’s peaceful national uprising.

Lets first get the chinese people the freedom from communism-then Tibet will gain its freedom as well from chinese like USSR crumbled once the bond of communist Big Brother just fizzled,by Gorbachev's generosity.

The British were more humane and civilized than Communist Chinese. It is hyperbole to compare British rule to the rule of Chinese communists. It is hard to imagine a scenario in which Tibetans can win their freedom through nonviolence and passive resistance.

    Let's think Global.

Europe has had too may boundaries that demarcated Germany, Austria, France,Spain, Portugal....
Today they fall under one shelter - Shengen States with no visible boundary, but only descrete administration. One currency - Euro! Onve Visa to go there. So, they are moving ahead. As an individual, we only have one barrier - Visa. We can even obtain that and visit, stay and work in different countries. We are getting global. Tibet, china, Pakistan, India have boundaries and difference of opinion.
Working in Gandhi's principle would slowly take out these barriers. If we still start drawing lines, we would end up in staying house only, not in a society, not in a state, not in a country, not abroad. Unfortunately We are taking his one of the principles "Satyagraha" as the weapon for everything.

    In current context:
Literacy is not about reading and writing and if possible learn.
Literacy is all about Learn, Learn, Re-Learn. Learn from mistakes, Learn from Lessons. Everybody knows to write and read.

Freedom needs a re-definition my dear.

We have our own land in others' hand (China and Pakistan). Tibetians fighting in Mangalore is ownly to propagate their feeling to Mangaloreans. I see it a waste of time, it only ruins their own career. If they focus well intheir Engg or Medical studies at KMC, yennapoya etc, perhaps they would succeed in life. They can atleast realize a better place in India to stay than the settlement given near Mysore.

It is meaningful only when there is atleast a single leader of them, who can go to China and fight.

Look at Aung San Suu Kyi's (Aung San was the General of Burma) fate. She is under arrest for 20 years but still does not give up her fight against Burmese Militiary rule, even at the age of 65. that is the spirit. The result is quite clear, she only can add titles "Jawaharlal Nehru award", Noble Peace prize, Sakharov or Rafto Prize.

We are fortunate to have had our own GandhiJi to fight for us.

It is the moral obligation of every  country and citizens of the world to stand with the people of Tibet  in their fight to regain their  native land. When China took   Tibet by force, India's foreign  policy was very lukewarm towards  China.

India has thus far given a symbolic backing to Tibet. India must do more to the Tibetans cause. The cultural link between Tibet and India is far deep for India to remain silent spectator. Dalai Lama is the mordern age Gandhi and he rightly deserves all the assistance world can provide. Obama's recent meeting in the white house is a good symbolic gesture.

"Tibet not a part of China"- Indeed, the Tibetians are right but will that right hold water in the international scene. I will have bm doubts.
Dalai Lama now an aging personalty, the torch of Tibetian cause holds no charisma and vigour one he possesed, but ineed he has support from world leaders in tokenism only.
Given the rise of China, economically and militarily it is incresaingly becoming a threat to the world. Can the world stop chinese dominence, its a question one has to wait for the answer. The world is flodded with Chinese goods and articles, cheap, creative and often attractive but those do not last more than few years. The Chinese are hard working and like the Japanese, the chinese leadership can be taken for granted. The african continent is completely dominated by chinese seeking raw materals, It holds American debt and can pull down Americas power if it wishes to do so.

The people of Tibet must hold their future in their own hands and an uprising could invite massive resistence by the Chinese power of military.  Even the Tibetian masses invite attention of the world, can the world come to Tibets help given the Chinese rise in world politics? I have my doubts but it can be done on peaceful resistence by Tibetians like our Mahatma did to get rid of the brutal Britsh empire.
Indias support for Tibetians is crucial but can India take this effort of clashing with China given the geographical position and Chinese support for Pakistan a rival of India.
