BSNL launches 3G Services in Dakshina Kannada, Udupi

Mangalore, Mar 6 (DHNS) : BSNL Dakshina Kannada telecom district launched 3G GSM mobile voice and data services in Mangalore and Udupi cities on Saturday. 

Speaking on the occasion, Karnataka Telecom Circle Chief General Manager S Raghavan said that the launch of 3G services will provide subscribers video calling, video streaming and high speed internet browsing facilities. The data card download speed is available upto 3.6 Mbps. At present, 3G mobile services will be available in Surathkal, Bykampady, Mangalore, Ullal, Deralakatte and Udupi town. 3G services network will be rolled out to other commercially potential places in a phased manner, he added.

32 cities to be covered

He said 3G services will be rolled out in 32 cities in the state in the next two months. The 2G mobile service expansion is also on cards in the first and second quarter of the next year.

After completing the operation of the 3G services in 32 cities, the present 3,000 towers will be doubled in the State. Additional 20 lakh capacity will be created. 1,000 towers will be erected for 3G services alone in the State. The telecom is spending Rs 900 crore for the 3G services in the State.

Stating that BSNL is connecting universities and colleges, Raghavan said all colleges will be given 20 broad band connections at a concession. BSNL is ready to give 4,600 broad band connection to customer service centres in the State.

District-in-Charge Minister Krishna Palemar said the 3G service will help the police department. However, one can not lie with 3G service in hand.

3G services

DK telecome district comprises of DK and Udupi revenues districts with 2.4 lakh landlines, 50,000 CDMA WLL and around 4.25 lakh GSM mobile connections. Six attractive post paid plans, two pre-paid plans and one post paid data plan and RCV (Recharge vouchers) from Rs 249 to Rs 2,499 are available for the consumer to choose from. Existing 2G subscribers can also change over to 3G plans without change of number. The BSNL data cards with 3G sim slot is available from BSNL.

Net calls in 3G platform are available as a promotional offer, for as low as 30 paisa per minute for local calls and 50 paisa per minute for STD calls. 3G prepaid General 120 promotional plan will be available with a validity of 365 days from the date of activation. For all technical purposes, a BSNL 3G Experience Centre will function at CSC, Kadri telephone exchange and CSC, Udupi telephone exchange respectively for some time.

MLA U T Khader, Karnataka Bank Chairman and Managing Director Jayaram Bhat, MLA Yogish Bhat, Principal General Manager Y C Mishra, GM (Mobile) R Mani were present.

    3G Mobile Service was inagurated at Udupi by establishing video call between Smt. Hemalatha P., our honourable Deputy Commissioner and MLA Sri Raghupathi Bhat on 6.3.2010 at the Conference Hall of Area General Manager BSNL office Udupi.     2G,3G,4G- v already are tightening our G-strings with prices rising from state to center-budget or no budget,inflation or deflation-the lot of common man is getting tougher day by day.
