Karkala, Mar 1 : Naxal was killed during an encounter with personnel of Anti Naxal Force (ANF) in the dense forest of Mairody, which is 5 kms deep into the wilderness from Mutluppady, near here, on Monday March 1.

The heavily armed personnel of ATF were combing the dense forest in the surrounding areas of Mutluppady, for more than a week, and were they closely monitoring the movements of a group of 10–12 Naxals including 3 women.

Deceased Naxal Vasantha

It is thought that Naxal leader Vikram Gowda was accompanying the group in the jungle when a jeep carrying ATF personnel arrived in the vicinity.  The sound of the vehicle’s engine alerted the Naxals causing them to flee.

Then the ATF personnel surrounded the Naxals and an encounter ensured in which a Naxal was killed on the spot on Monday evening while others managed to escape.  The deceased has been identified as Vasantha.  ATF personnel Rajesh was admitted in a private hospital here following injuries.

It’s also significant that handbills were pasted in the town announcing that the state has announced a reward for informants. The pictures of Naxals and their personal details were also found in the handbills.

ANF superintendent of police Vasudevmurti, when contacted over phone, said that they are conducting an initial inquiry and Western Range IGP Gopal Hosur will arrive at the spot soon.  Meanwhile, further details on the encounter will be revealed to the media soon.

KEEP IT UP Police Dept. Before these bloody naxals make Karnataka like Jharkand, Police must wipe out them from the Universe. In the name of poor, these terrorists destroy our Country by burning schools, buses, blasting railway stations. There were good naxal organisations long back under the leadership of Kondapalli Sitaramaiah. Those organisations really fought for poor. Present Naxals getting arms and money from China through Nepal maoists. China's main aim is to destabilize India slowly but surely. That's why Ex Defence Ministe George Fernandes said " China is No.1 enemy of India." Once again..keep it up Karnataka Police...shoot them who believe in destruction and not construction.

Fully endorse Rajesh Rao, Mangalore statement. Might be the the deceased so called Naxal Vasantha hailed from poor family and fighting for his survival. Even investigation maynot reveal the truth. Only those the ATS squad who shot him will know the truth.

Well said, Malenadiga, Malenaadu. I agree with your thoughts but I would like to add to your comments.I think we should bring these naxals to mainstream by negotiating with them. It is better to treat the disease than its symptoms. One thing we should remember is that they are all our own countrymen who are unhappy with the government and taken up arms to fight against the govt. I firmly believe violence is not the solution for any problem. It leads only to destruction, loss, hatred and violence. No one gains from this.

Mr.Aramu and Malenadiga, there is no doubt the nexlist are doing wrong, but the killing them only is not a solution.instead of some fake encounters better to arrest them and making a true citizen of our nation.the govt.,have to find out the causes of their unjustice protestings and try to solve it.even the organisation like bajrang also did the anti social no? so as Mr chethans view why they are not encounterd? don't think we are in abroad dnt knows about our homeland, we are well aware about our beloved contry of homeland.most of all here living only bcz of the financial source for their families day by day life and other nececsary requirements.

This looks like a fake encounter. There should be a judicial probe against police high handeness and investigate what led this youth to take arms against Government. I donot think karnataka police can be so competent as they have been pictured here. It looked ike khaki people have killed a poor youth in cold blood and branded him a naxal by thrusting arms and ammuniations in his hand.

Mr.chetan, Mr.Abdul Kader, Alister, Please note that Naxalism is spoiling the youths of Karavali and Malnad Regions of Karnataka.Because of this youths are losing the opportunity of good education and good jobs in Gulf like you. You can understand better if Naxals visits your house at 2AM and threatens to kill you and loot the whole house and go.
