Davangere, : Thousands of Animals Sacrificed at Bloody Ritual

Thousands of Animals Sacrificed at Bloody Ritual

Davangere, Feb 25 (DHNS ): The scene would have made many weak-hearted faint. But nearly one lakh people chanted ''hulugyo.... hulugyo'' when the head of a buffalo was carried around Sridurgambika temple in the City in the early hours of Wednesday.

What followed was more galling. Literally blood flowed as nearly 50,000 sheep, five buffaloes and thousands of chickens were sacrificed to please the goddess during the biennial Sridurgambika temple fair in the City.

Surprisingly, police, who had mounted tight security, remained mute spectators as the animals were butchered in the old Davangere area. A crowd of nearly one lakh had gathered for the fair.

After butchering the "pattadaskona" (main buffalo) at an undisclosed place, the devotees arrived at the temple with the head amidst chanting of "hulugyo... hulugyo) and went round the temple and offered the blood to the presiding deity. As if to give a seal of approval to the barbaric practice, a former minister, who was present at the spot, applied blood as tilak on his forehead.  By 10 am, 50,000 sheep were cut in front of the houses.

Administration’s failure

The administration and police could not prevent women and children from offering seva covering themselves in neem leaves.  As there is a ban on slaughtering now, the devotees cut the buffalo at an undisclosed place and bring it to the temple during this once-in-a two-year fair.

According to sources, nine buffaloes were sacrificed. By evening, at least five heads had been offered to the goddess. The event made a mockery of the arrangements as the authorities had installed CCTVs to prevent slaughter.

Kumar, you are right killing is killing be it sacrifice or for eating. Then why ban cow slaughter? Daiji has published this and all other related realties, as an eye opener for people to know politicians are not for any religion, but to divide people in the name of religion. But for those who do not want to learn, its better if they do not read these articles.

Once district administration try to impose a limited ban by stoping the practice of semi nude women performing puja but the policemen who went their to impose the ban were stripped naked by devotees. Here too scores of animals are sacrificed.

This is really a sad thing. They say "Religion is belief", in true meaning it`s your consciousness, which shows right and wrong. Some believe killing as an offering can make happy where as for others, a continued generation which keeps and follows religion by following good. I really wonder if God does feel foolish when Man takes cruel steps to please him. No wonder why there are floods and earthquakes. This is one of His ways to get His men back to track. Well People of Davangere, don’t be surprised when you get one of these. Well, sooner the better. Watch the price for KG of Mutton may be 500 Rs. Hahaha. Happy butchering...!!!

for your information cows are never sacrificed on any occassion.

So now almost many people have realised that this kind of act of killing is barbaric."Whether its mechanised killing that takes place in west in the name of food" or "whether its done in the name of god" ....
One should realise that killing is killing. Animals, birds or humans have to undergo pain & suffering at the time of getting killed which is not good at all.

Since this time its killed in Hindu temples every ones eyes have opened and everyone came to know the value of life that is one good point to be observed here in this forum.

God has created animals to aid human beings in its best possible ways. Few animals are served for human diet prominently reflecting to their culture. Each should respect each other culture & belief. Care should be taken whilst slaughtering/scarifying these animals as these are living being which can sense pain etc. The sacrifice symbolizes the devotee's utter devotion to GOD or the supreme. This is the belief behind scarifies and believers conforms. Double standard/biasness at the legislation level for political mileage is not at all acceptable. God sake! Let’s not behave like politicians.

My friend Sunny, UAE, people kill sheeps during Eid for celebrating feast. They never say it is their God. But, beleiving cow and Buffallo as sacred (God) and at the same time killing it as an offering to please Goddesses....does it makes any sense ? Don't be desperate and write anything senseless. Being in UAE, I am sure you too feast on the meat of these sheeps during Eid.

These are the real Hindu who believes in the old traditions and these people are not supporting the RSS/VHP agenda of ban of cow slaughter. I have seen the same traditions in Bali Island who believe in the Nature, air, fire and water. They agree that these beliefs had been inherited from India.

There is boothadha Kola is still in practice and thousands of Roosters, pigs, goats are offered to various gods and different places in Karnataka. The Home minister has no time to visit these people and offering because he is modern Hindu with modern traditions and these modern hypocrites have their own law and orders. They ban cow slaughter but wear leather shoes and use leather for the car interiors.
