Sangli, Feb 1: “Globalization has threatened the existence of regional languages and the national language.  However, the recently held Vishwa Tulu Sammelan at Ujire, in Beltangady taluk of Dakshina Kannada district, has proved that Tulu can sustain for many centuries.  Dr Veerendra Heggade was the brain behind organizing the Sammelan, as he believed in the long sustenance of Tulu by closely observing the steadily declining usage of Tulu among natives across the country. Every Tulu speaker should join in the campaign of including it in the eighth schedule of our national constitution”, urged Dharmapal U Devadiga, vice-president, Vishwa Tulu Sammelan Mumbai committee, and Mumbai-based past president of Devadiga Sangh.

He was speaking at the 22nd annual ‘Tulu Utsav’ organized by Karnataka Tulunad Sangh, at Shalini Devidas Kamath auditorium of Tulunad Cultural Bhavan, on Sunday January 31.

Sadhana Kini said that the mother tongue is the lifeline and culture.  “The native langue should be spoken despite migration which has been prevailing since several centuries in mankind.  The mother tongue should be spoken at home for posterity”, she said.

Jayaprakash Kini said that Tulunad is the creation of sage Parashuram and the Karnataka Tulunad Sangh has been promoting Tulu and its culture here to convey the greatness of Tulu to all the people in Maharashtra.
