Abu Dhabi Airport Reports Growth in Passenger Traffic

Abu Dhabi, Feb 1 (IANS) The Abu Dhabi International Airport saw a 7.3-percent growth in passenger traffic in 2009, with 9.7 million people using the facility, WAM news agency reported.

The Abu Dhabi airport is one of the few airports in the world to have achieved a healthy growth.

A robust growth in Cargo traffic was also recorded during the year, with an increase of 7.0 percent compared to the previous year.

The figures were released by the Abu Dhabi Airports Company (ADAC) Sunday.

The airport offered direct services to 80 destinations in 46 countries in 2009, and eight new airlines started using the facility.

Khalifa Al Mazroui, chairman of ADAC said: "Despite the adverse global economic climate and consolidation observed in the aviation industry in 2009, Abu Dhabi International Airport has been resilient, with solid growth in both passenger and cargo traffic numbers demonstrating this."
