Mangalore, Jan 30: “A temple or a church should give peace of mind to a devotee and should make him surrender to God. Hence, a place of God should attract with its structure”, said Dr D Veerendra Heggade, Dharmadhikari of Dharmastala, at a public meeting organized at St Antony’s Jacobite Syrian Church, Jeppu, as part of the celebration of its Holy Maroon Consecration Ceremony on renovation.

Speaking on Saturday January 30, he said that the church is a place which makes devotees surrender to God in search of his blessings. “The architecture of the churches helps everybody pray in a silent environment. When entering this church it attracted me with its beauty”, he said appreciating the renovated church.

Dr Heggade recalled that he had seen a similar church on his visit to Russia and said that the ancient temples and churches were a good place to worship God which even on a first visit makes us pray to God in a different way.

He also said that the Jacobite Syrian community has contributed much to the culture of this district. “Their contributions to the field of agriculture, business, and others in a notable manner are really appreciable. Without discriminating in the name of religion, we have to live in a better way in future”, added Dr Heggade.

Oscar Fernandes, former union minister, inaugurated the programme. Dr J S Sadananda, Bishop of C S I Karnataka Southern Diocese, released the parish telephone directory.

MLA U T Khader, and Vinay Kumar Sorake, former Member of Parliament, were present as chief guests.

H B Baselios Thomas I Catholicos of the East, Ernakulam, presided over the programme.

Jacobite Syrian Church claims a rich history and heritage. They trace their faith imparted by St Thomas a close disciple of Jesus Christ hence from the Lord himself. As Indians worship thousands of gods- Jesus, as Gandhiji reminded ‘he is an Asian,’ who reveled and sacrificed his life for the love of God, became part and parcel of our legacy. However, it is rather sad that in the recent days many tried to destroy our solidarity with the society and the religious harmony and our national integrity. Following the task entrusted to them by the Lord himself like any other religions, thousands came to India and we Indians also went over all over the world to share this Good News in words and deeds through mission and ministry.

Thus Christians have become proud holders of the rare privilege and also a great universal faith. Therefore while congratulating the Jacobite Church for building a beautiful sanctuary for the glory of God, we also should commend them for inviting Dharmadhikari of Dharmastala Dr Veerendra Heggade to grace the function along with people of other faiths and traditions. Because it is our ‘Dharma’ [spirituality for life’] and ’Marma’ [mystery to understand God] for welfare of all the humanity!

Any credential is less for Dr.Heggade.He has been rendering a yeoman service to the society. But I feel that he can do a bit more in soothing the communal hatred blowing fast in our region.I hope the misguided Hindu youths will listen to Dr.Heggade's advice.Dr.Heggade should talk about communal harmony even in a Hindu congregation.

Dr Heggade is a blessings and gift of God to the people of coastal karnataka. He lived by example. He has a great vision. Some of his social service works include, loans to less previliged, medical care, sulabha, hospitals, mass marriages, educational institutions, free lunch, name only a few are talk of the town. He is not only a leader of jains, but also leader of masses. Unlike some other seers, he has not double standards and double takes. A powerful personality like him can lead and bring about changes in the mindset of people and society can change under his vision. I am sure if he leads the compaign of sadhbhavana, co existance, once agains mangalore will gain her lost glory and Dr Heggade's name shall be remembered in the history of coastal karnataka. The beneficiarys of Dr Heggade is welfare scheme includes people from all religions. He doesnt do any partiality on the basis of religion. For him humanity is priority. I wish him good health and pray for his long life. Dear Heggade, sir you can bring about revolutionary changes into our conservative society, the society devided by communual and hardline feelings. Do the other seers condemn recent church attacks like Dr Heggade condemned it.???????
