Bombay South Kanara Brahmins’ Assn Holds Republic Day Celebrations

Mumbai, Jan 30:
Bombay South Kanara Brahmins’ Association held Republic Day celebrations on Tuesday January 26, with the hoisting of the National Flag at Gokul by the association president Dr Suresh S Rao, vice-president Suman K Chiplunkar, honorary secretary Anantha Padmanaban K Potty, honorary  treasurer Haridas Bhat and honorary joint secretary Prashant R Herle. 
 
Over 100 members attended the ceremony. This was followed by patriotic songs melodiously rendered by members and children. A comedy on current affairs was presented in Harikathe style by Manjunath Jalade.
 

 


The members of youth wing staged a skit, Hum bhi honge kamiyab ek din, written and directed by Anup Kuukkemane.
 
The post lunch programme started with the engrossing drama, Shara Shayya by Kala Jagattu. The audience was spellbound for the entire duration of the play.
 
The association presented Gokula Ratna to K Yadava Acharya for his untiring contribution towards the betterment of the community members. Prizes for academic excellence were awarded to meritorious students.
 
The artistes of Guru Narayana Yakshagana Mandali presented Dakshadwara, Yakshagana play on the occasion. The programme concluded with the National Anthem. 
 
The National Flag was also hoisted at Ashraya, Home for Senior Citizen, Nerul by association vice-president Laxmish Acharya in the presence of honorary joint secretary Chitra A Melmane, honorary administrator of Ashraya Chandravati K Rao and all the residents of Ashraya.
