Mangalore, Jan 27: A day after the inauguration of the police commissionerate in the city, people passing by Nanthoor Circle were shocked to see a new traffic policeman wearing a ‘dhoti’ and a ‘jubba’.

The man was controlling traffic along with a gunman and two regular traffic policemen on the evening of Wednesday January 27.

The mystery man was none other than former minister Nagaraja Shetty, chairman, Coastal Development Authority. He had stepped down from his car while passing by the circle where traffic was held up.

After stepping down from his car, Nagaraja Shetty gave suggestions to the traffic policemen and started signalling to vehicles.

The drivers were surprised to see a familiar face and co-operated. But some were shocked to see a person with a gunman monitoring traffic at the circle.

The scene was a totally unexpected one and everyone just looked on without making any comments.

The former minister, who was in the news during his tenure, has since kept away from the limelight. But his short stint as a traffic policeman caught the eye of some passersby.

Criticism also followed that the traffic problem at Nanthoor Circle was at the peak during his regime as district-in-charge minister.

The traffic cops on the spot who were going about their duty were taken by surprise as well. After nearly ten minutes, the politician continued on his way.

Whether he has done it in a good intention or for publicity, it helped those who stuck in the traffic. Let’s take it positively……….

One thing is certain , if he was in power then he would have a police jeep in front of his vehicle and he would in his convoy of vehicles with a loud siren in the background . All politician are same . They say " birds of the same feathers flock together " . Let as not pin point him for getting any mileage from this road show .

The minister should have walked a bit by 50m towards Bikarnakatta from Nanthoor circle instead of publicity stunt. I would have appreciated if he had taken some actions for the road repairs there. Someone said that Mangalore has more craters than in the Moon but I carry forward to say: "Bikarnakatta constitutes 80% of the craters of Mangalore"

Mr . Shetty what is the message you want give to public by doing this , Because you standing the road yesterday we were struck in traffic almost more one hour. Please don't do this thing again which will create problem rather help . Or else what ever Mr Jerry Moras Said will become true:-public will think who is this banana vendor is in the middle of the road. Also he is not turning traffic but creating traffic so that everyone can see him.

I think we should appreciate Mr.Nagaraj shetty's humility and attitude. If he wanted he could have just used his official position and bypassed all traffic and gone on his way. The nanthoor traffic problem is not the governments fault. It is the peoples fault. Most of the people of mangalore simply dont have any traffic or civic sense. They only know to fight between themselves.

Dear Nagaraja Shetty ,you look awesome on the middle of the road with added decoration of gunmen around you. Traffic would have been smooth if you had given importance on developments of roads in Mangalore during your tenure as district in-charge Minister. But still you can do this job as you are a chairman of specially created so called Coastal Development Authority. The people of south kanara are having lot of patience and had given opportunity to you but you did not prove well and they did not elect you for a second term in Bantwal. Now it is the right time to do some good work and be out of the air conditioned car so the people will see that you are capable of doing something beyond your capacity as a chairman.

This should have been done when he was in power. At that stage, he did not do anything. Now what is the point in controlling the traffic. Perhaps he might have stuck in the traffic on his way to some important meeting.

Moreover, he was there only yesterday, what about everyday pain of common man. It is very sad, that, every politician while in power he is busy in protecting his chair, and accusing each other. They talk only when they are not in power, "this should have been done, that should have been done". This includes All Ministers, Prime Minister and there is no exception for President.

If at by chance some good officer who wants to do some good for the nation and for the public, he is not given proper chance do his job, either transferring him very frequently or interfering in his job. This is just because the loop holes in our law and order system. Moreover, recently we are experiencing the instability in the very common issue of religion, which a big gain for politicians. Who knows how many subsidiary organizations Mr. Nagaraj Shetty might be having back door...using his past political influence.

Gerald, dont you think this is "Taking law in your hand". Tomorrow if you or me stops the car in between and start directing the traffic, ignoting the traffic signal or the cop, dont you think they will take action against us? Everyone has their duty and responsibility. If one has power then he should see that there is proper system/signal or the cop is present, what will happen after he leaves?

I know Mr.Shetty very well,he is the person having helping nature, cooperative mind.now adays politicians are running out from the problems, just recall a month ago, what happened in tamilnadu,a cop was struggling for his life on road but the politician or minister, high level govt official passed away on the road doing nothing, this attitude is far better than nothing.I believe this man was rejected by few people even not in thousands in last election.

It takes an ex Minister to highlight what one goes through day in and day out at Nanthoor Circle- utter chaos where might is right where bus drivers recklessly cut their way regardless of smaller cars, three wheelers, two wheelers and the POOR pedestrians. Add to this the bus stops so very close to the Circle when bound for both the highways makes it CONFUSION POINT. Why cannot this be converted into a simple CROSS ROAD POINT after all there are only 4 roads there. Why has half the road leading from this "Circle" towards North been closed for years - if it is opened then there can be free flow from the KADRI side out. Instead of a Circle just have a Traffic Control point with a traffic policeman on duty from 7 am to 9 pm (with proper reliefs and replacements)& with traffic lights/ manual override buttons, like they have at the Corp Bldg junction at Urwa and get all traffic to go around it. (sometime ago I was driving to Kadri from Yeyaddi and went round the Circle only to be asked by the Cop why I did not just cut straight to the right like everyone else??). Mr Hosur,Sir, if you read this, make it one of your first few orders- so many have died, so many ahve hurt themselves, so much has been spent on needless repairs because of accidents at this point.
