Mangalore: MPL Auction Fetches Franchises Six Players Each

Mangalore, Jan 26: The six franchises for the Mangalore Premiere League (MPL) bought six players each for the T20 cricket tournament in an auction held here on Tuesday January 26. 

Mangalore, Surathkal, Manipal, Panambur, Moodbidri, and Bantwal franchises participated in the bidding. 

Umesh Kharvi was bought by Mangalore and Janardhan by Suratkal teams for the highest bid of Rs 12,000 each. The tournament will start on Sunday February 14, 2010. 

The auction was held at Hotel Deepa Comforts where 36 players were chosen through bidding. 

The MPL Tournament will be played at NMPT Ground in Panambur from Sunday February 14. 

Every day there will be three matches—10.30 am to 1.30 pm, 2.30 pm to 5.30 pm, 6.30 to 9.30 pm—and the last match each day will be played under floodlights.  

A total of 15 league matches will be played where each team has to play five league matches against each other. There will be two semi-finals and one final match, informed the organizers of MPL.

The Mangalore team which is named 'Coastal Digest' owned by Amaco.

    It's a great initiative by the members of MSC and MPL organisers ,they have had good response so far ,I hope ,the event becomes a great success ,something of this magnitude is happening for the 1st time in the entire south canara and heard it's going to be on air live,opportunity for all the young cricketers from d southern coastal belt to showcase their cricketing skill and start playing at the highest level and become stars.My best wishes for all the franchisees ,players and of course the organisers ,u hv done a great job ,cheers !

    Best of luck to coastal digest team owned Amaco. As Amaco cricket team known as no.1 in Eastern Province Saudi Arabia. Wish Coastal Digest to be No.1 in MPL. Amaco has got some star players from Mangalore in Saudi Arabia Eg: Jubair, Imran, Shabeer, Niyaz etc, i personnally think those players should be ed has team members of coastal digest.
