Mangalore: CSP Seize Snake Venom Worth Rs 80 lac, Arrest Two

Mangalore, Jan 20: Coastal Security Police (CSP) seized snake venom worth Rs 80 lac and arrested two persons near NMPT quarters, Panambur here on Tuesday January 19.



The arrested have been identified as A M Shareef  (25) resident of Byadagotta near Somwarpet and Norbert (45), resident of Subhashnagar near Moornadu in Madikeri of Kodagu dustrict. On a tip-off police disguising as customers nabbed the two, while the duo were trying to sell two litres of venom stored in two flasks.
 
Mukunda Nayak, police inspector of CSP, said that the venom is worth Rs 80 lac in the international market and the duo will be interrogated to find out whether more persons are involved in the illegal racket. Investigation on the source from where such high quantity of venom was acquired will also be undertaken, he said.
 
The venom has been kept at the CSP station in Tannirbavi and sample will be sent to Mysore for scientific testing, said Mukunda Nayak.
 
Sub-inspectors of CSP, Amanulla and Shridhar S R, Constables Harish, Rajaram, Vijaya, Revanna, Sheshappa Gowda, Bhaskar Shetty and Naveen assisted in the operation.

    I salute these two brave men,they have not looted anyones property,they have taken the venom out from deadly snakes which riquire courage.they have contributetd in saving lives.hope the authorities realize.

    The case should be handed over to CBI to see from where this venom was collected so that themoney can be spent on that Highway and the justice to NH is done

    no use arresting these guys, the real culprit is somebody else. Even if they were not arrested they would not have got anything for this. Somebody who was jealous of this transaction has reported these guys. I think we have better things to do. Police need not pat their backs.

    With the proceeds of sale of Snake venom, the NH 48 to be repaired because The snake Venom from somaverpet/ Kodagu area & not to use the sale amount for repair of NH 17 just because the criminals caught at coastal area of Mangalore. The properties are of NH 48 areas.

    Dear Britto why you want to stone them.they did good job you know,they removed poison from so many snakes and cleared nature which u can't do it.but our police what will they do it now.  I agree with Mr.Shetty sale it in international market and do patch work of our poor roads.do it fast

    I wonder what Police will do this seized snake venom worth Rs 80 lacks ! Better they should sell this in international market and spend that money to do the patch work atleast of our pathetic national highway 17 from Mangalore to Udupi.
