Mangalore, Jan 14: The Annual Feast of Infant Jesus was celebrated with great solemnity and devotion on 14th Jan, 2009 at Infant Jesus Shrine, Bikarnakatte, Mangalore. The devotees flowed from early morning till night. There were 7 masses in the morning and a prayer service for non-Catholics.

The solemn festal Eucharistic celebration was at 6 pm at which Rt. Rev. Aloysius Paul D’Souza, Bishop of Mangalore was the president with 60 priests as con-celebrants. “Be attached to Jesus, the High Priest who broke himself to open the doors of heaven for us. Inculcate the childlike attitude of Child Jesus in your life to attain the heavenly reward,” said the Bishop addressing the devotees of Infant Jesus. The whole Hill with 15,000 devotees participated with rapture devotion and piety.

In the morning ocean of devotees irrespective of caste and creed climbed the Carmel Hill, to pay homage to the Infant King with burning candles, offering flowers etc. It looked as if all roads in Mangalore led to this little hillock which has become an oasis of harmony and brotherhood. The sick and the elderly were specially prayed for.

Nine days of Novena preceded the festivities. Different themes on Priesthood were reflected upon in this year dedicated to the priests. People in large number participated in the Novena.

Dear Superior Fr George Santumayor, Shrine Director Fr Nelson and the Carmelite Community of Bikarnakatte, at the outset I want to congrtulate you for the most succesful nine days Novena to Infant Jesus and the solemn feastal celebration on 14-01-2010. The arrangements for the public, discipline and the atmosphere created for devotion was indeed great. The liturgy on the feast day was very touching.

The melodious 'CHOIR', realistic penetential service and the inspiring homily preached by our Bishop on the theme Jesus the High Priest, and the beautiful prayers of the faithful, gave a boost to the celebration. Congratulations to carmelite Fathers, Brothers, Organisers, Volunteers and one and all. May the devotion to the Infant Jesus help us to grow in faith and to lead a harmonious and peaceful community. All the best.
