Doha: Karnataka Sangha to Host Cricket Tourney, Honour Kirmani

Doha, Jan 14: Karnataka Sangha Qatar (KSQ) is all set to organize its first ever floodlit cricket tournament at Ideal School grounds from January 19, 2010 onwards. The tournament will get started at 7 am on that day.
 
Syed Kirmani from Karnataka, former Indian wicket keeper and a proud member of the only world cup winning Indian cricket team, who is a popular name in the field of cricket, has agreed to attend the semi-final and final of this cricket tournament. He will be honoured by the Sangha for his meritorious service to the game of cricket.

The 12 participating teams were invited for a briefing on 12th January 2010 at the Mazza Restaurant in Doha. President of KSQ, Arun Kumar, welcomed the gathering, Sports secretary of the Sangha, Deepak Shetty, and Naidu explained the details of the tournament to the teams.  Vice president, Mannagi, delivered vote of thanks.  Dr Sanjay will be the coordinator of the tournament.



































The 12 teams are divided into 4 pools, and all the teams in each pool will play on a straight league basis.  The top two teams from each pool will qualify to play in the quarter finals.  All the league matches, quarter finals and semi finals, will be 12-over games, whereas the final match will be a 15-over game.  

All the teams will be present for the opening ceremony on January 19,  2010 during which the lots for the tournament will be picked.

Finals will be played on the 28th of January, 2010 from 7.00 pm onwards, at the Ideal School grounds. Padmashree awardee and 1983 world cup-winning team member, Sayed Kirmani, will be the chief guest for the final match.  

KSQ Champions Trophy will be awarded to the winning team, KSQ Runners Up Trophy will be presented to the second best team. In addition, attractive prizes for the man of the match, man of the finals, best batsman, bowler, all-rounder, man of the series and also an award for extra ordinary performances like hat trick, five-wicket hauls, high scores etc., will be given..

Teams lined up for the tournament are, Al Fardan, CBQ, Hannan, Lagaan, Qatari Diar, Tulu Koota, Euro Spare Parts, CCTC, Kokan Fighters, M Pallonji Qatar, KSQ, and Al Feroz.

Group A – Qatari Diar, M.\ Pallonji Qatar, Hannan,
Group B – CCTC, KSQ, CBQ,
Group C – Al Fardan, Al Feroz, Kokan Fighters,
Group D – Tulu Koota, Lagaan, Euro Spare Parts

Chidananda Naik of M Palonji Qatar is the main sponsor of the event.  Organizers wish success to all the participating teams and request the cricket lovers in Doha to come in large numbers to witness the tournament and support the players.
