Bangalore : Congress Leaders, Farmers taken into Custody

Bangalore, Dec 30 (PTI): About 500 farmers from North Karnataka districts and senior Congress leaders were today taken into custody after they tried to enter the state secretariat protesting "non-implementation" of flood relief measures announced by the BJP government.

The farmers who gathered at Freedom Park to air their grievances relating to non-payment of compensation, bouncing of cheques and non-receipt of flood material, staged a protest march to the Vidhan Soudha (state secretariat), led by the Congress leaders.

Congress leaders, including opposition leader in the state assembly Siddaramaiah, KPCC President R V Deshpande and Congress Working President D K Shivkumar, H K Patil were among those who were taken into custody.

The farmers shouting anti-government slogans tried to rush into the premises but were stopped by police who threw a security cordon round it.
