Mangalore, Dec 30 (DHNS): The Mulky bundh call given by Mulky Taluk mathu Nyayalaya Horata Samithi, demanding taluk status to Mulky was total. All the business establishments had shut down their business as part of the bundh.

Without the movement of vehicles, the roads and the bus stand was wearing a deserted look. Even the highway was blocked for sometime.

In fact, all the private buses bound to Kinnigoli and Mulky from Mangalore had stopped plying owing to the bundh. However, express buses started operating in the evening.

Samithi leader Dinesh Ulepadi said “the bundh was total in all the 32 villages of Mulky hobli. The people of the region have been demanding taluk status to Mulky. However, now the government is planning to create new Mulky hobli by including it in Paduva Moodabidri taluk.”

He said during the British rule, Mulky had a moffusil court between 1863-1900. In fact, Mulky even had a police station other than Mangalore. Mulky was one important centre in Coastal district.”

“Once it had port, court, excise, customs, PWD offices. However, the facilities were withdrawn after the independence. “The people of Mulky have been demanding taluk status for the last 30 years. However, all the political parties have been neglecting Mulky,” he added.

A memorandum was submitted to Chief Minister B S Yeddyurappa through Deputy Commissioner V Ponnuraj.

Considering the tremendous growth in population coupled by a proportionate increase in the number of households in and around Mangalore,I feel it is high time that Mulki be given Taluk status, particular for the common man's convenience residing in the region and secondly for the sake of administrative convenience. While Udupi has been accorded district status,

I don't think there should be any impediment in making Mulki a taluk, except estabishment of separate administrative and judicial offices. People living in the vicinity will indeed be relieved of the burden of travelling all the way to Mangalore regarding property or legal matters

The move for demanding taluk and a court is right, once a time mulki is named after mangalore and udupi now the few politician hiding mulki fame and pushing down because of giving same kind of facilities to some other place. The painy thing is behind the movement of this bundh are selfish, brutalist, criminals they want fame and name. These persons are removed the corporation from mulki when its included in mangalore corporation because they are self benefit and cheap thinking they not did this bundh peoples benefit those who living in this part so, my request for all of them is do heartly.

Yes, Mulky has very important and significant role in Geology also. Because of the geographical features of Mulky, entire Coastal Karnataka is safe from the so called "Jala Pralayam" which was assumed by some newspapers / magazines in the year 2000. Scientists and Geologists have done detailed studies and proved that Mulky is a prominent place in terms of Geology. I think many people of the district are not aware of this fact.
