Bahrain: Sacred Heart Church Konkani Community Celebrates Christmas

Bahrain, Dec 23: The Konkani community of Sacred Heart Church here celebrated its annual Christmas fellowship at the Bishop Tirinanzi Auditorium, recently. It was an evening filled with variety entertainment for the entire community. 

The event commenced with a welcome address from the community’s spiritual director Fr Vincent D’Souza followed by Konkani carol singing by children and choir members succeeded by Santa’s arrival much to the delight of the children. 

The clergy and religious joined the core committee to cut the celebration cake. The parish priest Fr Dinesh Mendonca then addressed the gathering. The evening’s entertainment programme included solo songs 'Nirbagi avoi' by Cynthia D’souza, 'Mother Theresa' by Pequeno, ‘Jezuchem jivit’ by Quixote, ‘Devan dilem jenvcharan vhelem’ by Errol. Group songs by the community choir members Freddy, Sidney, Francis, Glen, Ronald, Muriel, Cynthia, Gladys, Reema, Raina, Sandra and Elizabeth. Dance for song ‘Gloria’ was performed by Jovita, Adline, Daphnie & Arpita. Rencila, Jenifer Nora, Lavita and Edna danced to the number 'Dam dam avaz khazne phutthath'. Famous ‘Coorudinha” dance performed by artists, Slenzita, Dona, Cyndi, Oslana, Spranzil, Lorsch, Jaison and Jude was choreographed by Carmin Correia and ‘Kotti” folk dance by Maria, Ophelia, Reena, Pequeno, Quixote and Bruno was choreographed by Ophelia.  





































Music for the evening was provided by Igi fernandes and Austin Monteiro. The evening’s major attraction was the hilarious comedy skit, 'Bodlavan' written by Manu Bahrain and enacted by Alwyn, Stany, Sujay, George, Nelson, Jacinta, Nirmala and Nelson Menezes. The crowd was thrilled with the song 'Amcho gaanv' sung by the choir group with the scenario of 12 rivers, fields, hills and jungles of Mangalore. The lyrics were written by Manu Bahrain. 

Refreshments were served and in house raffle draw was conducted with Christmas hamper being the first prize. The event concluded with distribution of prizes and vote of thanks by Freddy D’Souza. Hilary Tellis and G R Crasto compered the event.
