Dubai : Amchigele Samaj Celebrates Sixth Anniversary in Style

Dubai, Dec 19: UAE Amchigele Samaj celebrated their 6th Annual Day on Friday the 18th December 2009 at the Emirates English Speaking School. It was purely an entertainment day enjoyed by one and all. The children displayed extraordinary talents by putting up family oriented skits, saxophone recital and dance/song sequences. Adults too joined them with a lovely dance and a humourous skit which had the audience split their sides out.
The celebration began with the lighting of the lamp at 9.30 pm by the committee members and their families followed by a devotional song sung by Mohan Kamath. The President of the samaj Shri. Ramachandra Hegde welcomed the gathering and wished them a joyful day of happiness and relaxation.
Bharat Natyam by Dr.Nithin Dev Pai was a treat to watch which was followed by an amazing saxophone recital by Diksha Pai, a child prodigy, who had come all the way from Karkala. The two dramas by UAE Samaj Balvrinda Dubai & Sharjah based on incidents in the lives of Bhakta Pralhad and Bhakata kanakadasa was really praiseworthy. The little children enacted the epic roles to perfection and were lauded and cheered by the crowd.
The morning session ended with honouring the students for scholastic & Non-scholastic achievements during the academic year 2008-2009. The meritorious students were presented with Certificates and a memento for their achievements.
A delicious lunch was followed by a couple of dances. A fusion dance by Rachana Hegde and group based on a medley of songs and dance presented by Veena Rajesh Pai and Group was thoroughly enjoyed by all. A hilarious skit by Harish Shenoy and group named ‘Lakhoo le Swayamvar’ was an out and out comedy that kept the audience laughing their sides out and provided a total entertainment.
The high point of the program was indeed two hour astounding vocal recital by Pandit Upendra Bhat, a disciple of Bharat Ratna Pandit Bhimsen Joshi. He was supported by Shri Avinash Patwardhan on tabla and Shri Kedar Bhagwat on harmonium. Pandit Upendra Bhat in the course of the recital also educated the audience on the ragas being sung by him. He sang a wide range which included classical bandish, bhakti sangeet as well as light classical. The singing was a treat to the ears of music lovers and was a fitting finale to the grand program. Every song drew a big round of applause from the audience.
The secretary of the samaj Anil nayak read out the annual report and the Vice President of the samaj Shailesh Shenoy proposed a vote of thanks. The program was well supported by the various sponsors. A lucky dip which had nearly twenty five prizes concluded the super day of entertainment and networking.
Sabitha Shenoy and Veena Pai anchored the entire event.
Approximately 500 amchigele baandhavas attended this program, men, women and children in their colorful attires, thoroughly enjoyed the event.
