Mangalore: Police Foil Duo’s Attempt to Sell Animal Hides worth Rs 5.5 Lac

Mangalore, Dec 8:
Police arrested two near KSRTC bus stand in city while selling animal hides and horns on Monday December 7, thus foiling an attempt for illegal sale. Hides of deer, leopard and three deer horns worth Rs 5.5 lac were seized from the duo.

Speaking at a press meet in his office, superintendent of police (SP) Dr A Subrahmanyeshwar Rao said that the Urwa police under the directions of assistant superintendent of police (ASP) Amith Singh arrested two persons identified as Veeresh Hiremata (27), resident of Kotekoppa in Soraba taluk, and Nisar Himam Sab (26), resident of Bennur Halli of Shimoga district. The police team on its daily rounds near the bus stand grew suspicious of the duo’s actions and undertook a checking. On checking, the police found animal hydes worth Rs 5 lac in duo’s possession which they intended to sell without license to a prospective customer who was yet to arrive.


 

Further on interrogation, the duo confessed to have hidden three deer horns amounting to Rs 50,000 in a bush on a government land in Loknalli of Soraba taluk, which has been subsequently seized by the police.

A case has been registered under Wildlife (Prevention) Act, 1972 at Urwa police station. ASP Amith Singh, police inspector Niranjanraj Urs, Urwa station sub-inspector Suresh P and his team of policemen, Narendra, Ajay, Rajaram and Sunil were present.
