Students Felicitate Kannadiga Poet B S Kurkal

Mumbai, Nov 30: The student fraternity of metro’s teacher and veteran Kannada poet Bhujanga Shetty Kurkal (B S Kurkal), organized a felicitation programme to honour their teacher at Bunts Bhavan, Kurla (East), here on Saturday November 28. B S Kurkal recently celebrated his 77th birthday.


 
Karnataka Kannada Sahitya Parishat former president Harikrishna Punaroor presided. Mangalore Kannada Sahitya Academy president Pradeep Kumar Kalkura was the chief guest. Veteran entrepreneur and Kannada litterateur Suresh P Shetty Bellary was the guest of honour.
 
Puttur former MLA Shakunthala T Shetty delivered the felicitation address. A documentary on the life of B S Kurkal was screened on the occasion.
Girikunjara, anthology on the life of B S Kurkal by journalist Dinesh Shetty Renjala and Giriya Nagaari, souvenir too was released.
 

Jyothi Bhat rendered the prayer song. S Shetty and Jyoti Devadiga read the congratulatory message. Dances were performed as part of entertainment programmes by the veteran dancers. The recitation of poems from the Geethakunjara by Veena Shastry, Jyothi Bhat, Chandrika Bhat, Ganesh Yermal, Aparna Bhat and others were also held.

Felicitation committee president Subba Rao, vice-president Raghunandan Kamath, Sundar K Shetty, Shyam N Shetty, Sundar K Shetty, chief secretary and Girijatha editor Dr G N Upadya, joint secretary Petemane Prakash K Shetty, joint treasurers Dr Karunakar Shetty Paniyoor and Ram Mohan Shetty Balkunje, advisors Shimunje Parari, Vishwanath Dodmane and Bhaskar Shetty among others were present.

    I was there on the day of the function, being a old student of N K E S , flew there for this purpose from Coimbatore, happy to be there. Met many of my classmates, fond remembrance of that school ( N K E S ) where i studied for a year after completing my tenth from Kunjar giri unforgettable memories and some of my happiest and sad moments was spent there. Mr Bujang shetty was our school teacher but never taught me, he happens to be my maternal uncle. Many thanks
