Mumbai, Nov 22:
Ville Parle MLA Krishna Hegde staged a protest against the haphazard work by the contractor of the sky-walk at D J Rd, Vile Parle (west) station, here, on Saturday November 22. He was joined by local corporator Jayanti Siroya, the residents of D J Road and shopkeepers’ association, who were facing numerous problems due to the skywalk.

‘We are not against development or the construction of the sky-walk, but we are against the manner in which the project is being executed. The sky-walk is already delayed, hence there are problems for vehicular-traffic and pedestrians as dangerous material is scattered around the roadside. I had visited the site on November 12 and was assured that the site will be properly barricaded and the dangerous material will be stored within the barricaded area, he said.

Further, I have also received information from MMRDA chief engineer Pahal on November18 that the barricading has been done, but when we checked it ourselves we realized the MMRDA officials were misleading us’ said Hegde. MMRDA had also informed us there was no tree cutting, but photographs are showing otherwise, Hegde added.

“I have already written to MMRDA commissioner Ratnakar Gaikwad earlier and will send once again requesting him to address the people's grievances,” Hegde said.

‘The contactor has damaged the drainage pipe which has now mixed with the BMC water, which has led to the supply of contaminated water since February. We have made several complaints but no one is paying heed to them,’ said Dr Heena Shroff, a local resident.
