Mangalore, Nov 21: In an early morning operation on Saturday November 21, amid tight police security, district administration and Mangalore City Corporation (MCC) vacated the encroachments on Beebi Alabi Road near Bunder by forcibly clearing scraps dumped for sale along the sides of the road.

The parts of the road remained encroached since several years despite frequent attempts to clear off the illegal occupation. The operation began with loading of scrap items using bulldozers.

While the scrap vendors and the owners were irked with the operation, the officers carried on with the operation informing the persons opposing that the notice to this effect has already been served. Moreover, oral information too was given, they added.

Certain section of locals also said that people used their political influence to reinstate the business despite clearing off the encroachments several times over. Further, removal of scraps dumped along the roadsides will also help ease the traffic on the road.

Dear VISWA, What you want to say? You know, churches & mosques were built with legal documents & the place is donated from beloved people. You said roadside, you check how many stones kept under the trees of the both sides of the road.

Well done MCC. The question this seems to taget certain traders only. Demolish anything on the road side whether it reflects religious sign or not. Anything on road should be demolished. The tree opposite of Old Shedigudda and the extention of road next to Canara College is not only very important but immediate action is required. Like Bharat Lal Minna has removed the clock tower in Hampankatta for road widening this should also be done.

This should be repeated now and then to deter further attempts. Otherwise, these scraps will find their way back on roads again. Any way it is a good job done. Kudos to all concerned.

Vishwa, USA, it is temples on side walks, footpaths, on gutters, peeple trees that are a real challenge. Enter any slum in Mumbai, there is temple first.Walk down the streets of Delhi, Gujarat etc. and every 50 odd yards there are temples. Build temples in your heart and inside your own houses and not on someone else s yard. Churches, mosque none. But daghas and crosses yes in certain isolated pockets. While there is no justification for any of these, each community must take upon themselves to remove this public nuisance.

Mr. Ponnuraj, we the Mangaloreans whole heartedly salute you for the efforts you put to make this city a beautiful place to live. I regret to say that we Mangaloreans are greedy & irresponsible and could not differentiate Good from Bad. The day of Might is Right should go and all should unite and work for better tomorrow. For your kind attention, some of the Bye-Lanes have blind curves which are very dangerous for cycling residential children, students on 2-wheelers rushing to colleges etc. A small sacrifice by the two adjacent owners of such Blind Curves will solve this dangerous problem in the residential Bye Lanes. Further, there are unscientific Humps of more than 12 cm high being erected as Speed Breakers where the bikes & cars dread go over it. The IRC has said that the speed breakers may be necessary only near schools or hospitals and preferably a broader type like the one in Bangalore roads. On Bye-Lanes it is better to have Rumble Strips to Humps.

The demolition work should be continued in right earnest everywhere bereft of political interference. If not there won't be any motorable road and walkable footpath left.

Good work and congratulations Mr Ponnuraj. All public must support and encourage this move. NO political interference please. DC Ponnuraj is known for good work and he rules by law and iron fist. But unfortunate is that these efficient bureaucrats hands are tied by the corrupt political setup and are not allowed to apply stringent laws. Just see what happened recently, Bellary mining barons reversed the transfer of bureaucrats and hand picked their own people. Its really sad part.

Atlast excellent work by MCC in evicting all encroachers from Government land. Thee guy in the picture looks dangerous. Let the MCC demolish all illegal houses built on govt land and free the roads for use of peadestrians and vehicles so that accidents can be minimised. Vincy why only temples why not illegal churches?
