Mumbai, Nov 13:
Vile Parle MLA, Krishna Hegde, visited the under-construction sky-walk site at Vile Parle (West) station road, here on Friday November 13 afternoon.  Chief Engineer from MMRDA, Anant Pahel, other officers, and the contractor, J Kumar, were present.

J Kumar is the contractor for the construction of the sky-walk at Vile Parle (West) station road and also at Andheri (East), station road.

Following reports that the sky walk is proving to be a death-trap for the pedestrians, MLA Krishna Hegde swung into action and conducted surprise inspection at the Vile Parle railway station site.

MLA Krishna Hegde found that the debris and construction materials were haphazardly strewn around and along the road, which acted as hindrances for the pedestrians and nearby apartment residents.  He instructed that both sides of the site be barricaded and the construction materials be stacked within the barricaded area.

He also instructed the concerned to provide proper lighting at the site, since it was proving to be hazardous for the pedestrians to walk through this area at night.  He also enquired about escalators and lifts at the sky-walk to be added for the convenience of the senior citizens and the physically handicapped. He found that the installation of escalators and lifts were not specified in the contracts entrusted by the civic body to J Kumar.

‘The officials have assured me that corrective action would be taken within the next three days, and dangerous material would be removed from the roads. I will also be visiting the Andheri station site tomorrow, to check the difficulties faced by the road users there,’ said Krishna Hegde.
