Mangalore, Nov 12: The district administration on Wednesday November 11

instructed its officials to take appropriate measures following the meteorological department’s warning that a severe cyclonic storm will soon make landfall in coastal Karnataka.

The district commissioner (DC) V Ponnuraj directed the education board to declare a holiday for schools and high schools in the district on Thursday November 12. A decision on whether to keep schools closed on Friday November 13 will be taken based on the situation on Thursday.

The DC has given directions to assistant commissioners and Tahsildars to take precautionary measures through the control room. Revenue inspectors and village accountants have been instructed to be present at their headquarters to act quickly.

He has also directed them to work on a 24x7 basis and to set up relief centers at pre-identified schools and colleges as well as temporary shelters, if needed. It has also been proposed that response teams be formed to tackle situations if disasters are reported.

District-in-charge minister Krishna Palemar said that all necessary arrangements will be made to tackle problems that might arise due to cyclonic rain.

Mr.Shetty & Mr.Nayak have, I'm sure forgotten all the picnic parties conducted by the BJP MLA's at Ullal and other spots during the monsoon season when the rough seas were wrecking havoc in the coastal areas that you are indirectly questioning the D.C., and another talking of pseudo secularism. Mr.Shetty, when the BJP Govt. and Mr. Palemar have given instructions to the D.C., then they will release funds for the same, please dont break your head on this matter.

Nagesh  Is Mr Palemar in Yeddy party or Reddy party? Which is the real BJP?. The Yeddy group or the Reddy group?. Among these two who is nationalist, who is secular and who is pseudo secular? These days MLA's and ministers are busy trying to sort out this problem. They don't have time for administrative work and solution for natural calamities.

It is not possible to prevent natural calamities, we can reduce the magnitude of the disaster if we put in place an effective management system. Thanks to our D C. Mr. Ponnuraj for the precautionery measures taken by him. Let our state ministers learn from Mr. Ponnuraj our D C. How to face natural calamities. Even after years of havoc rains and floods have inflicted on the people, we do not have policy on flood management. (natural & artificial flood) Crores of rupees are spent every year on the visits of officials from the center and state to flood devastated areas. What do our ministers do after the expensive air borne exercises? Why waste money? This year we had ( having) bad experience from our state ministers. (Drama from Yeddy and Reddy brothers).

Everytime they console us saying they are ready to face the disasters if it occurs. but when any such big or small disasters occurs they are not to be seen.. its quite usual in mangalore. I have seen such statements given by them especially before the rainy season, and if there is a heavy downpour its the people who will suffer not them.

It is a matter of great satisfaction to see that our present D.C. Mr. Ponnuraj is extremely conscious of his duties and obligations to the public. It is good to see such an efficient officer ever so alert who believes in the concept PREVENTION IS BETTER THAN CURE. KUDOS TO YOU Mr. Ponnuraj. may your breed increase. Joe Gonsalves
