Abu Azmi Hit by MNS MLAs for Taking Oath in Hindi

IANS

Mumbai, Nov 9: There was pandemonium on the first day of the new Maharashtra assembly Monday when Maharashtra Navnirman Sena (MNS) legislators roughed up Samajwadi Party member Abu Asim Azmi for taking the oath of office in Hindi.

As Azmi started to take his oath in Hindi, several MNS members swooped on him and pushed him aside. Legislator Ramesh Banjle uprooted the microphone from the podium.

As Azmi attempted to save himself, MNS member Ram Kadam slapped him and hit him on the face and chest, shocking the 288-member house that had converged for the oath-taking ceremony.

Though all said and done, why should we blame Raj Thackrey's MLA? yes ofcourse the act is wrong. but the logic behind the act is right. Though Hindi is our National Language, as a state, we have Marathi as our first language. and why should a person who's part of Maharshtra assembly not try & learn marathi and take Oath in marathi? dont you think its insult to a marathi manoos? just because Mumbai respects & gives equal chance to non-Maharashtrian people, why are we taken for granted? And if somebody raises voice against this act, why is he named as a Terrorist?

Dear Mr. DayanandP, Jeppu,Mangalore/Chennai, I appreciate your comments because you have experience in staying all over/several places in India. In my opinion there is nothing bad in any other languages. This will be evident only when a person converse in other languages (he or she) will find the sweetness/goodness of other languages. We do use the language as a medium of instruction, transaction and understanding each other. Within India if we have love for a particular language what about our other languages.

Since India is a multi-lingual, multi-cultural society people should not have love for a particular language. Parents should encourage their children (I say encourage, not force) to learn as much languages they can which is beneficial everyone’s benefit/future career. Do a Kannadiga must stay in Karnataka only, Marathi’s should stay in Maharashtra, Tamilians should reside in Tamil Nadu, A Maleyali should stay in Kerala only and if such is the case, the days are very near that we will shatter into pieces unless citizens think in a broader/rational sense.

We can see how Japan is progressed only because of one language and they have no trouble whatsoever. Will people digest to live up to one language all over India and If that is the case alright. Whereas we have several languages and the film producers, actors, language authors, politicians are creating nuisance to sell their products/to grab votes. Contd...

Wish there was a Raj or Balasaheb Thackery in Karnataka, the day wont be far of when Kannada will be an alien language in Bangalore, even now there is no value for kannada in Bangalore etc though being a state language, because we dont have strong politicians like the MNS/Sena, these two outfits are not communal they are only interested in their state which is correct, they are not against Hindi, but an MLA who represents the state without knowing the language is very strange,Abu Azmi purposly wanted to create all this dirty tricks, he's well known for that, all this is politics.

It is ridiculas to accept some of the arguments put forth by your readers above. What if I say in Mangalore only Tulu should be spoken & in Car Street only Konkini should be spoken? Where is the end? As a free citizen of the country I should be allowed to live any where & speak any language I wish to. I my self do not know to which place I belong to? Born in Calicut(1942), spent child hood(18 years)in Mangalore, finished education in UP & now settled down in Tamil Nadu(40 years)! Come on Mangaloreans have some sense at least now. MNS should be banned & Raj should be jailed till he is reformed.

Similar to Bangalore, the city of Mumbai has also gone thru a very tough time in the hands of outsiders. We all should respect local culture and language. Use Kannada in Karnataka, Tamil in Tamilnadu and Marathi in Maharashtra. Why 'Hindi' in maharashtra?

It is an insult to our national language. Anyone insults our national language, national flag and our constitution must not be spared and punished according to IPC. We need all the sena’s at the border not in the state assembly or in the parliament. If they love their state and country they must join the defence force to face our enemies. Sena’s job is only at the border.

Firstly, Mumbai is not Mr. Raj's property...Its a metropolitan city where anyone can migrate to earn their living...  Who is he to decide upon what language an individual speak. Is it a crime to take an oath in India's Official language...Trust me this Raj & Company should be put behind bars...And May I add...I can challenge Mr. Raj and his children (Convent educated) on their Marathi speaking ability.

This rat who was in hiding when Bombay was burning is again flexing his muscles after the enemy has been defeated.

The fact remains, hindi is followed by people who do not have brains to learn a 2nd language. All over India, all people (except hindi speaking), speak at least 2 languges. Even Karnataka they take oath in KANNADA ....... not in TULU or KOKANI.

This is ridiculous, someone attacking a MLA for taking oath in our national language(HINDI), or probably because he is a Muslim. MNS won 13 seats for attacking North Indians and bullying Karan Johar, if he continue doing this vandalism and gundagardi, he will soon become the C.M of Maharashtra coz the number of people who share Mr.Satish's thoughts form the majority.
