Dubai, Nov 8: Daiji Dubai, the forum for Konkani writers in Dubai staged the first-ever Laughter Evening here and enthralled packed audience in Zomorodah Party Hall behind post office in Karama, Dubai on Friday November 6.

'Ek Ghadi Hason Kaadi' was an instant success and the gathering was put under a spell by the standup comedy artistes of Daiji Dubai and Daiji Rang Mandir. The crowd had a laugh riot from at 5:30 pm to 8:30 pm.

Well known Konkani activist and writer Gerry D’Mello from Canada and celebrated artiste Francis Cascia jointly inaugurated the show. They were accompanied by Daiji Dubai convenor Stan Ageira and Daiji Rang Mandir convenor Alwyn Pinto.

The list of performers including distinguished Alwyn Pinto, Sebastian, Walter Nandalike, Robert Udyavar, Sunita, Francis, Pradeep Paladka, Deepak, Jerry D’Mello and Stan Ageira entertained the audience with their funny stories. The gathering was left amused by the comic poems of Vincy Anjelore, Antonam and JJ Dias. Dolla’s brilliant performance at the concluding session was icing on the cake. Daiji Dubai perfectly used this opportunity to honour Dolla for his illustrious service to the Konkani community. Gerry D’Mello was also specially thanked for his participation as guest artiste.

The biggest surprise of the show came in terms of the prizes. The prizes were given to the audience and not for the performers. Linus Moras, Vallu Peris and Michael Castelino judged 8 winners comprising 4 each of loud chucklers and silent non-cracklers. Walter Nandalike declared the winners in his unique humorous style.

The announcement of Daiji Dubai and Daiji Rang Mandir’s annual day was announced by celebrated romantic Konkani writer Stany Nirude by unveiling the manuscript of Stan Ageira’s stage play ‘Kasake Grachchar Saiba.’ The full-length out and out comedy stage play based on ‘Sharing Accommodation in Dubai would be performed and presented by Daiji Rang Mandir during Daiji Annual Day on April 9. The venue and the time would be informed in due course.

Upcoming poet James Pius compered the opening and concluding part. But scene-stealer was none other than our own Daiji Dubai’s founder member and former convenor Dayan D’Souza, who co-ordinated Ek Ghadi Hason Kadi by his truly mesmerizing fillers between each of the performance from beginning until the end.

Ek ghadi hason kadi', what a wonderful concept by Daiji Dubai at a time when most of the people are going through rough times with their lives are in full of tensions. This comedy laughter show brought smiles (laughter) on the faces of one and all present for about three hours. Thanks to Daiji Dubai Team, whose novel and innovative concept helped many to forget all the tensions at least for three hours. "Congratulations to Daiji Dubai team specially Mr. Dian for thinking of such a good concept and presenting it wonderfully well.

A Stand up Comedy show in Konkani, for the first time in UAE is brilliantly architected and conducted by the one and only Dian and his team and all those who took part in this beautiful venture did their part very well and couple of them stood out like Mr. Walter Nandalike and laughter magician Mr. Dolla.

Daiji always comes out with some novel and first of its kind concepts and as usual they do it with passion and meticulously planned. The distribution of prizes for the least laughed in the audiences was one of the highlights of their creativity. Having said that this function went on very well, there is always a scope of improvements and knowing Daiji for their professionalism, we are sure they will bring out many more such programmes with more improvements.

Only request to Daiji team is that next time to organise similar programmes in a bigger hall so that many more can enjoy such wonderful programmes. Herman Lewis and RADIO SPICE 105.4 FM

Wow ! What a laughter riot !! Great job by Daiji Rang Mandir in organising the 'chuckle me, tickle me' show which had the audience roaring with non stop laughter. The unique concept well arranged by Daiji's well known stalwart Dayan was nicely backed by seasoned stars like Walter Nandalike, Alwyn and others with timely ticklers. Every single participants contributed in their own unique ways but I personally felt for 'Antonam' with his fond hopes of seeing Sania Mirza 'lift' the cup (or is it something else?).

Someone even said 'Mhataro Chorbela' when Francis Cascia opened his dictionary too. Sebi was another to impress. Mangalore's guest artiste Dolla came up with 'real life' jokes that even sent shivers when we heard his story about the cemetery and the rickshaw driver. All in all, an excellent evening nicely designed to say that 'laughter is the best medicine'. Well done Dayan and everyone at Daiji Rang Mandir. I had a pleasant surprise when I got a prize for being one of the silent non cracklers although I felt that my 'thick mush' must have obstructed the judges view !

The laughter show was superb, we enjoyed every moment with all sorts of comedy, from raampa to mr.bean, manmoham to obama, ganguly to sania mirza, phirangi langoti to desi langoti, it was a mixed bag. We need more such shows from daiji, may be something like an old english series "Whose line is it anyway"?

Good show put up by Daiji Dubai. One can easily make people laugh with their acting. But surely the people performed in "Eak ghadi Hason Kadi" shown us how to make the audieance laugh only by their splended vocabulary. To name the few Sebestian (Sebi, boliye), Walter Nandalike and Sunitha were best in their performanace. Others also done their best to keep the momentum going.
