Jubail: AMACO to Challenge Classic in Champions Trophy Final

Jubail, Nov 3: The cricket played in the desert land of Saudi Arabia never attained the hype of this magnitude. The AMACO Company, which has its own cricket team, has brought about a turnaround in the scenario hosting AMACO cricket carnival 2009. 

AMACO Champions Trophy 

After lifting 'AMACO T20' cup by host AMACO team, the attention is centered on the ongoing AMACO Champions Trophy. The past 18 days have seen some of the spectacular matches between various clubs of expatriate community from India, Pakistan and Sri lanka in the eastern province of Saudi Arabia. After the qualifying rounds among 12 teams, eight strong teams had stormed in to quarter finals. The quarter finals saw some of the best contests of the entire tournament. CLASSIC beat T sources, KONKAN IX bundled KAFE to enter the semifinal. BLUE STAR a team from Coastal Karnataka beat NGC in style and entered the semifinal. In the last quarter final, the host AMACO gave a crushing defeat to Pak Punjab to enter the semi-finals. 

















In the first semi finals, CLASSIC and Konkan IX fought the battle for supremacy and CLASSIC made their way to final with a convincing win. The second semi-final was in fact match of the tournament. The match between AMACO and BLUE STAR, two traditional rivals of South Kanara expected confrontation in the final, however met each other in the semi-final and the match was played as if it was a final. Unlike other matches, cricket lovers from Jubail, Dammam and Riyadh had gathered in large number to cheer their favourite team.

AMACO batting first could manage only 123 runs in 15 run. There was a good chance for BLUE STAR, but they were in trouble losing two wickets for just 13 runs. But Muthalib and Imithiaz with a solid partnership of 53 runs threatened to clinch the match. Shabeer of AMACO tilted the luck in their favour by scalping the dangerous pair. Picking five wickets in ten deliveries for just two runs, Shabeer appeared giant killer for BLUE STAR.

Now in the last two days to the closing ceremony of AMACO cricket carnival, Digital Cup 2009' knockout matches are in progress up to Wednesday November 4 with finals AMACO Champions Trophy slated for November 5.
