Mangalore, Nov 3: One person was injured after he was allegedly attacked by a group of Bajrang Dal activists for his alleged involvement in forcible conversions near an apartment complex at Attavar on Tuesday November 3.

Manjunath, a construction worker and resident of Ankola, was attacked at the B G Court Apartments while he was standing outside his rented residence.

The miscreants attacked him saying that he is involved in assisting a man residing in the same apartment in forced conversions.

Sharan Pumpwell, district convener of Bajrang Dal, said that a person called Vincent belongs to New Life sect is involved in forced conversions.

“He invited several residents of the apartment complex for prayers in his house and on obtaining the information we enquired of a man called Manjunath”, he said.

The victim, Manjunath, refused to state whether anyone forced him to convert. He also said that believing or not believing in any God was his will.

He alleged that nearly three members attacked him with their hands.

It is said that there were nearly 20 members of the Bajrang Dal involved in the attack. They entered the house of Manjunath and found several books related to conversion.

Most of the neighbours denied knowledge of any conversion activity at his house.

John Mascarenhas, a friend of Vincent, said that there is no conversion taking place in that house and he is always busy with his construction work.

Assistant superintendent of police Amith Singh visited the spot with Mangalore south inspector Thilakachandra and also made enquiries of the Bajrang Dal members.

Here we cannot accuse the Bajrang Dal or the Christians involved. What we can do is that we need to set up an investigative agency of the police which checks conversions or other communal activities and actions should be taken accordingly. Any activity which leads to hurting the public sentiment should be condemned and sternly dealt with !

Bajrang Dal thinks that by doing all violence they are protecting Hinduism. But fact is they are distroying Hinduism.None of the religion supports violence. Each Indian has a freedom to practice and follow any religion. So I request all Hindu brothers please dont support Bajrangdal. One day they will distroy Hindu religion due to their violence.

It is correct that they are not doing forcible convertion. but they take sympathy of thier religious faith, give or help to get financial support, help to getting a good salaried job, asking him keep faith in Jesus, he will help you, these are the tricks they are doing to convert the poor people. especialy BPL community, because they are neglected by the Rich foreward class (as they think). Wt Bajarangdala's goons are doing is just for their daily bread, they know they wont survive if they dont get any reasons to recognize publicly. We are the common people (HINDU, CHRISTIAN & MUSLIM) who suffers from their activities. Try to think through your heart rather than mind which is mixed up with rational thoughts preached by Bajarangadala's goons. I request you to rethink about it, rather than blaming ur neighbors

There are many Good Christians who believe that missionary work is directed at helping the poorest of the poorest! The manner in which this noble work is done makes many Hindus convert Christianity! The Sarchar Committee report that Government of India has accepted, states that Millions of Muslims in this country are the poorest of poor (poorer than the STs and the SCs), they lack economic power and suffer from poor medical / educational faculties. How come the missionaries are not working for their upliftment? How come they are not setting up churches and orphanages in poor muslim areas?

The answer to this question would be embarrassing to the Church in India! They may find it shameful to admit that missionary charity is a means to an end. They would also face severe consequences if they attempted to convert poor Muslims using charity as an excuse. The Hindus (as the community is most tolerant to anyone) are soft targets for conversions and that is why all this zeal for charity!

WHY HINDUS ARE ONLY AND ALWAYS TARGETED SINCE CENTURIES? TRUE INDIANS AND PATRIOTS MUST COME OUT TO CHALLENGE THESE EVILS AND OUST FILTHY POLITICAL ANTI INDIAN LEADERS WHO ARE AGAINST OUR MOTHERLAND AND ORIGINAL CULTURE. WAKE UP PATRIOTS AND SAVE OUR TRUE AND ORIGINAL CULTURE.

There cannot be smoke without fire. When there was an incident of mental torture to girls of orphanage to convert, praise jezzz and pray at chruch, you never condemned such anti national acts, however you people are quick to blame Bajrangdal for assult of conniver to these religious frauds.

You people are blindly supporting "newlife" for religious gain so to get an identity of your own in India by increasing your number, which will never happen. so better learn to live life fully happily with whatever you have, instead of victimisng poor by allurement, fraud and force to your religion by crookedness.

Unless you stop such religious frauds, Bajrangdal will try to stop such acts for the betterment of the society. Victimising poor is an act of cruelty to your GOD.

Chris after reading thousands of news articles on Baj Rang dal activities I am convinced that the bajis (this is what we called them in college) have no better work than to pretend to be great social workers who in practice break society than maintaining its solidarity.

Its a fact these people do "forcible conversion" however the "force" is in question it could rather be an emotional blackmailing. These new life is across the world and apparently many catholic were "forced" to convert here recently. Very much on expected lines. Whenever BJP is in crisis, whether at the national level or in the state, it or its friends find ways to divert attention. If this conversion allegation is true, then the culprit must be penalized as per the law.

They should not be allowed to carry on with their foul activities even for an extra hour. However, this is a pure law and order issue and law should take its own stand. But why these self-proclaimed protectors of religion but destroyers of nation, take lead? Will the police book case against them for manhandling a person? Whether one is involved in coversion or not, no one except the law should take action. Even if tomorrow the person is found guilty of converting people, he should be put behind the bars. At the same time, people who manhandled the person too should be put behind the bars. Law should not have two separate yardsticks based on religion.

But in Karnataka that seems to be a distant dream since dicotomy is the mantra of this govt. Whom they will take care of? They are not able to manage their cabinet of 32 persons, will they be able to manage a state of 5 crore population? Meanwhile is this Sharan Pumpwell the same one who was involved in kidnapping a Bunt community girl studying in a well-known college in Mangalore under the guise of love some three years ago? If he is the same one, let people decide how well he can protect religion and culture!
