Riyadh: First KWAR Annual Day Celebrations Begin with ‘Karavali Pizza-Inn Trophy-2009’

Riyadh, Oct 11: Karavali Welfare Association, Riyadh (KWAR), a socio-humanitarian voluntary organization of Mangaloreans in Riyadh, began its first annual celebration with the ‘Karavali Pizza-Inn Trophy-2009’ on Friday October 9, at Baghlaf Ground, here. 

The cricket tournament is the maiden event organized by KWAR and was inaugurated with Mohandas Shetty, finance manager, Pizza-Inn, batting symbolically and Vijay Rai, president, KWAR, bowling to him. 

A total of 24 teams from across the capital city are participating in the play-offs. 


















Vijay Rai delivered the inaugural address. General secretary Royston Prabhu, joint secretary Ramesh Shetty, sports secretary Prakash Shetty, and co-ordinator Rajesh Kumar were present at the inaugural. 

Six matches were played initially with ‘Mangalore Kings’, ‘SCFC’, ‘First Com’, ‘Inter Continental’, ‘Reliance’, and ‘KCC’ being the winners in the first round. 

Twenty-three matches will be played in the tournament and the final will be played on Friday November 6.

KWAR is also planning to organize the biggest sports and cultural event of the year, ‘Karavali Parba-2009’, on Friday November 13.
