Bopanna Jumps 89 Places in ATP Rankings


New Delhi, Oct 6 (IANS) India's Rohan Bopanna marked his sensational comeback to singles play by making a quantum jump of 89 places to 358th in the Association of Tennis Professional (ATP) rankings released Monday.

The 29-year-old Bangalorean last week beat World No.51 Argentine Jose Acasuso in the first round and then took a set off World No.12 Chilean Fernando Gonzalez in the second.

India's No.1 Somdev Devvarman climbed four places to 129th place while Prakash Amritraj gained two places to 229.

Delhi teenager Yuki Bhambri, who won his fifth International Tennis Federation (ITF) title Saturday, has jumped seven places to 403.

In the women's singles rankings, Sania Mirza jumped four places to 61.

In the men's doubles, Mahesh Bhupathi and Leander Paes are unchanged at sixth and the eighth position.
