Explain huge assets allegations: CJI to Karnataka Chief Justice

NEW DELHI, Sep 16 (PTI): Taking note of allegations of acquisition of "huge assets" made against Karnataka High Court Chief Justice P D Dinakaran, Chief Justice  of India K G Balakrishnan reportedly sought an explanation from the judge who denied the charges.

The meeting that took place last week in New Delhi came against the backdrop of five legal luminaries writing to the CJI about complaints from several lawyers based in Chennai against Dinakaran.

The leading advocates including F S Nariman, Shanti Bhushan, Ashok Desai and Ram Jethmalani suggested that the CJI should reconsider the decision to elevate the judge to the Supreme Court.

Dinakaran and four others have been recommended by the Supreme Court Collegium to the government for being appointed as judges of the SC.

Highly-placed sources said during the meeting at the CJI's residence and attended by some Supreme Court judges, Dinakaran's attention was drawn to the letter sent by the lawyers under the auspices of the Forum for Judicial Accountability levelling charges of land grabbing and other "irregularities" against the judge.

Dinakaran is understood to have denied the charges before returning to Bangalore.

The Bar Council of India (BCI) had on Monday voiced reservation over Dinakaran being appointed to the apex court.

Sorry gentleman, taking away the wealth of the public in the name of caste is not guaranteed anywhere in the constitution. The latest charge that two lawyers in Karnataka representing the government were forced to resign because of this culprit being the judge is unacceptable. Is it not shame on your part to support a criminal who is black spot in your caste.

A person is free to mention his caste to enjoy the benefits education only which will enhance the career. Afterwards, indulging in criminal activities, threatening lawyers etc. are shame. The purpose of education is to lead a moderate and decent life. The proverb is kettle says the pot black. In this instance I donot know whether you are kettle or pot.

A citizen is innocent unless proven guilty. Justice Dinakaran acquired the land before he was promoted to Madras High Court. He was a successful lawyer. Is the public indicating that the lawyers should be poor? This is absolute insanity. This man is being put in the limelight only because he is a Christian, South Indian and comes from a Dalit background. This is just a good example of how injustice prevails in India against the minorities.

In this life and this world, crime may go unnoticed and unpunished. Guilty may go scot free and innocent may get punished because of money power. But let everyone understand that they have to stand in front of their Creator and in the court of Lord, there wont be any money power or muscle power. It will be just, nothing but just and truth. Then everyone will come to know. So everyone of us must rule by our inner coscious and we must be true to our creator.

When somebody like a judge gets rich in a short span of time without getting a lottery, there is ample evidence that the money was made through illegal means. That tells the judge did favour to the ciminals. The system is highly corrupted.

Corruption in judiciary is very rampant & open. The corrupt lawyers & judges are hand in gloves in influencing the judgments. They are the co-partners in swindling the gullible.

Corrupt people must be punished heavily. Their bank accounts, assets inside the country and outside the country must be frozen by the court until they give a satisfactory reply to the public. Freez their bank accounts and liquidate their assets and distribute to the charitable institute or needy people.
