Twitterati recall 2004 tsunami horrors, pray for dead

New Delhi, Dec 26 (IANS): Twitterati on Thursday recalled the horrors of the widespread death and destruction caused by a tsunami that hit southern Indian coast in 2004, with many paying rich tributes to those who perished in the natural disaster.

#tsunami trended on Twitter as many users posted pictures and even clippings of the immense damage caused 15 years ago.

One user wrote: "I request everyone to observe two-minute silence to commemorate those who lost their lives in the 2004 tsunami that destroyed the lives of people in 14 countries....! RIP"

One post read: "I tweet because I survived #tsunami2004."

One user posted pictures of the tsunami destruction and wrote: "Remembering the day of tsunami -- December 26, 2004. Let them rest in peace."

A post listed out the damage caused in Sri Lanka by the natural disaster -- deaths 35,322; injured 21,411; and displaced 800,000 -- along with the comment: "Tsunami2004 was Sri Lanka's worst natural disaster in history."

A Twitter user tweeted: "Felt bad deeply that day even though I was a kid. My forever prayers and tributes to all those who lost their lives."

"Lest we forget..."December 26, 2004 was one of the darkest days in history. Thousands lost their lives because of the #tsunami. I was in Kanyakumari that day and survived by luck. Let everyone who died that day rest in peace," read another post.

One user remarked: "Tamil Nadu has seen a lot of natural disasters but the traces left behind by the tsunami still haunt us."

One post quoted a little boy's lament after losing his parents: "Sea, I will never forgive you, even if your waves touch my feet million times."

"Remembering all those who lost their lives & their families," said one post.
