Udupi, Sep 12: Deputy leader of the opposition in the Rajya Sabha, Sushma Swaraj, said that everything Lord Krishna did through his Leelas (divine sport), was to achieve comprehensive and inclusive welfare of everyone in the world. Lord Rama was known as 'Maryada Purushottama', as he gave importance for observing principles of righteousness, while Lord Krishna is known as 'Leela Purushottama' as he chose to achieve the welfare of the subjects through the means of Leelas, she added.

Speaking at the valedictory function of the month-long 'Srikrishna Masotsava' held at Srikrishna Mutt here on Friday September 11, she said that right from the childhood activity of Lord Krishna, of stealing curds and the mature and educative activity of preaching the 'Gita' to Arjuna when the latter was confused and was about to unclear about his duties and the activity of presenting his 'Vishwa Darshan', were driven by the motive of achieving the welfare of everyone.

Former union minister and Bangalore South MP Anant Kumar wanted that 'Srikrishna Masotsava' celebrations will not get confined to the 'Rajangana' of the Mutt, but becomes a public festival. As the youngsters now-a-days are forgetting the rich culture of the nation, the spreading of the messages left by Lord Krishna should own the proportions of a popular movement, he said, expressing the faith that the celebration of Krishna Janmashtami will also be held at the school and college levels.

"The country is caught in the mighty grip of the 'Kalinga Sarpa (huge serpent that was tamed by Lord krishna)' of economic downslide, terrorism and the attack of the western culture on our culture. If this 'Kalinga Sarpa' is to be annihilated along with other problems like poverty and corruption, Lord Krishna has to incarnate again. Like the freedom struggle, Rama Janmabhoomi campaign and the JP revolt against emergency, we need another national level movement to crush the problems gripping the country," he opined.

Paryaya Puttige Mutt head Sri Sugunendrateertha Swamiji delivereed the message on the occasion of Krishna Janmashtami. Sri Lakshmivarateertha Swamiji  of Shirur Mutt, Sri Raghumanyateertha Swamiji of Bheemanakatte Mutt, Sri Raghuvarendrateertha Swamiji, MLA K Raghupati Bhat, 'Taranga' Kannada weekly executive editor Sandhya Pai and various other dignitaries were present.

Renowned vocalist R K Padmanabhan was felictated as the 'Asthana Vidwan' of the Mutt. Economist Dr V R Panchamukhi welcomed. Gopalacharya presented the programme.

These so called matured and senior politicians should be ashamed of themselves of mixing religion and politics for personal gain. They have become a laughing stock for the sensible common man. They are trying to blackmail the common man with this religion drama.

Such nonsense can happen only in India that too in Karnataka as most of the people are still illiterate and primitive in their thinking. BJP politicians are making best use of their innocence and ignorance to the fullest. All the time political functions in temples and all the time talking about religion. Is there no end to this ?

It is up to the temple authority to decide of whom to be invited to the festival. Some people unneccessarily poking their nose in this matter. BJP is upholding Hindutva which is welcomed by hindus. Any other party like congress, JDS are not talking about hindus and their problems. The majority leaders of these parties are hindus.

Just for the cause of getting votes from muslims and christians they are fooling themselves. But nowadays muslims and christians remain not the same as before. They dont care whether it is congress or JDS. They are smart enough to take right decision in right time.

I request the so called minority Sympathisers, we don''t need minority status. We are like hindus and everyone should be treated as Indian or Hindustani. No one should be recognized by his religion. Religion should be practiced privately and peacefully. No God or religion teaches violence. Every religion is great for its followers. So no one has the right to criticize or question some ones faith. One nation, one chanting- Jai Hind.

BJP used Lord Rama for its political gain and formed govt at Center. Then BJP cheated people in the name of Ram and lost. Now since Lord Rama is angry, BJP is turning to Lord Krishna. Because now they have Mathura, after Ayodhya. After Lord Krishna, we dont know which God they will turn on to. Anyway BJP is using Lords and Gods and religion for its political gain and it is not interested in the common man''s welfare. They have not raised the standard of living of average hindu, dalits are still dalits, untouchables are still untouchables. There is no imporvement or changes in the life style of average hindu. What made the difference is in the life style and bank balance of these BJP politicians.... which is true and hard to swallow by the BJP patrons....

Mr Kiran/Mangalore. Be sensible. Is this place and is this holy occasion is for promoting party''s ideologies. Let any one come as visitor and as devotee. Today being the vittla pindi/ashtami day, because of lot of visitors and tourists, there already is a pressure on police and security arrangements. With these big wigs, concentrating at one place, do you know the inconvenience and embarrasment a common devotee has to undergo because of police, nakha bandhis, security cordons etc. A common mans bhakthi may be more profound and true than these stage managed devotees. If they believe in God, then these politicians would not be responsible for the hate and blood shed taking place in India. This is a holy place and holy time. Please dont restrict the movement of genuine devotees who have come from far distance places with full of love and devotion for Lord Krishna. Its my Udupi, a temple town and I am proud to be associated with Udupi and ashta mutts..

Sushma Swaraj should practice what she preaches. But her ideology is just opposite of she preaches. Madam, don''t politicise religion because it is pure & non manipulative. Madam, don''t use Rama & Krishna to reach your political goal.

Reminds me few quotations Mohandas K Gandhi says ...Those who say religion has nothing to do with Politics do not know what religion is. ...H H THE. Dalai Lama says This is my simple religion. There is no need for temples: no need for complicated philosophy. Our own brain, our own heart is our Temple the philosophy is kindness. So let us show kindness to human beings and let us live in PEACE and make the earth a HEAVEN.

It is great function to view only on Newspapers or in the pictures. All common people to be allowed to visit and pray. Functions with politicians keep it away. God is one for all but the ways of worship are different. After death man reaches the Kingdom of God let him be a King or a common man. God treats equally to everybody. Politicians brings the difference in religion.

Politics spoils. Politics must be kept out of the sanctity of these religious ceremonies. Any one can visit as a devotee, but honouring and taking them to the podium, asking them to give speech, highlighting their presence shows that these religious places are not free from politics. Why these religious places are not holy for non BJP members? Please keep religion out of politics..

Whilst the scene is good and occasion is holy, I wonder even the mutts and temples have been politicised and all you see here is BJP big wigs. It more or looks like BJP mela than a religious function..
