Mangalore, Sep 11: The premises of the Manjunatheswara Temple in Kadri were turned into a land of Krishnas with nearly a thousand children participating in the ‘Sri Krishna Vesha’ competition on Friday September 11, arranged as part of Sri Krishna Janmashtami celebrations.

The competition was arranged by Kalkura Prathistana with the intention of creating religious awareness in children. Children from various age groups participated in 13 different categories.

Pradeep Kumar Kalkura, president, Kalkura Prathistana, said that the participation of children is important as their knowledge of our gods increases. “The child, by acting as Sri Krishna, can acquire knowledge about him. It is good that the number of children participating in this competition increases every year”, he said.

There was also a section for mothers to participate with their child as ‘Yashoda Krishna’. ‘Tunta Krishna’, ‘Geetha Krishna’, ‘Kanda Krishna’, ‘Muddu Krishna’, and ‘Bala Krishna’ were some of the sections in the competition wherein children participated dressed as different kinds of Lord Sri Krishna.

The winners were honoured with special prizes and all the participants were also given gifts.

It made me glad to see the joy in the faces of all the children. It shows the diversity of India. Among all communities of India there should be harmony and peace. Children are the best example how harmony and peace can prevail. A wonderful day for children. I am sure all of them enjoyed attending. Best Kurt
