Udupi: Ashtami Preparations Underway at Sri Krishna Mutt

Udupi, Sep 10: The preparations are underway here for the celebration of Sri Krishna Ashtami on Friday September 11 and for Vittla Pindi on Saturday September 12.
 
It’s significant that Sri Krishna Mutt is celebrating Sri Krsihna Ashtami based on both lunar and solar calendars this year, unlike solar based celebration held in the past.
 


Month-long Sri Krishna Ashtami celebrations are being held at Sri Krishna Mutt here since August 12 based on lunar calendar, with various religious and cultural programmes held daily. Dasavani programme for 26 hours non-stop will be held on Friday September 11 from 6.00 am, on the occasion of solar based Sri Krishna Ashtami.

The chanting of bhajans will be held by various bhajan mandals sponsored by Sri Krishna Seva Samiti.
 
The car street surrounding Sri Krishna Mutt has been decorated with Gopura, for the grand festivities of Vittla Pindi on Saturday September 12 morning and the competitions wherein earthen pots filled with yoghurt is broken as well as Muddu Krishna competitions will be held on Saturday September 12 evening. 
 
Huli Vesha display will be held in front of Shiroor Mutt. The garland worth Rs 1 lac is being prepared to present it to each costume bearer under the leadership of Sri Laxmivarateerta Swami. 
 
The stalls of fruits and flowers set up along the car street  are doing brisk business as devotes are busy buying them to offer it to the temple deity on this auspicious and festive occasion.

    Sri Krishna Janmashtami of Sri Krishna temple, Udupi (its not mutt) has a special place in the life of Udupites. We used to enjoy the Vittla pindi and enormous veshadharis. Its good for our eyes and people of all caste and creed used to participate in this event and used to enjoy and on returning home we used to enact the veshadharis acts and dialogues. We miss it a lot. My best wishes to my dear Hindu brothers and sisters of Udupi. May Lord bless them all..
