Puttur: Saudi-imprisoned Suleiman's Family Pleads His Innocence

Puttur: Saudi-imprisoned Suleiman's Family Pleads His Innocence

Puttur, Sep 10: Suleiman Abubakker, a resident of Nellyadi near here who had left to work in Kingdom of Saudi Arabia (KSA), has been languishing in jail there, for no mistake of his and has been pleading for his early release.

Suleiman was working as a truck driver for the past 25 years in India at Nellyadi near here, caring for his ailing mother, wife and five children; two sons and three daughters.  However, 53-year-old Suleiman left for KSA on January 29 2008, to work there, in order to support his ailing mother and family; especially to get his three daughters settled in life.

Although, he traveled to KSA on employment visa sponsored by Saudi national Abdul Hadi Sannam, Suleiman was jobless for almost two months even after arriving at a remote tribal village in KSA. At last, Suleiman was employed as a truck driver with Raza Al-Tami, a relative of Abdul Hadi. But little did he know that he would go through miserable life within eight months of working on the job?

A tragedy struck Suleiman within two months of working as a truck driver. A marauding car full of passengers rammed his truck that was parked besides the road, killing six Saudi nationals which led to his arrest by Saudi policemen who put him in Riyadh jail.

Now, Suleiman is languishing in the prison for no mistake of his. His case came up for hearing at Saudi court after a few months of tragic incident and the court imposed him a fine of Saudi Riyals 5.5 lac, equivalent of Rs 70 lac which would set him free.

Suleiman’s family back in India are in great misery, since he had left for KSA by selling his 10 cents residential plot that was all he could possess after his 25 years of earning at Nellyadi here. Saudi court judgement on Suleiman has further distressed his large family that solely depends on him. Meanwhile, Suleiman was shifted to central jail at Taif without any access to get in touch with his family back home. His wife and children cry over the ill-fortune of their earning member and pray relentlessly for his early release from Saudi prison.

The distressed family has now been pleading social welfare organizations for early release of Suleiman. They have already sent a plea to Indian Embassy in Riyadh, minister of external affairs S M Krishna, Indian President Pratibha Patil, Prime Minister Dr Manmohan Singh and also state Chief Minister B S Yeddyurappa to try their best for Suleiman’s early release. His teary-eyed wife says that so far no concrete actions are being taken in this direction.

Meanwhile, Jamila has sought the donors to extend their support which would go a long way in securing the release of her husband Suleiman.

My heart goes out for this poor fellow who has been locked up for nothing!! Most of the comments are on the lines of ''praying'' or ''helping''. But, nobody is opening their mouth on the level of injustice being practiced in KSA. WHy are we so silenet when a human being is treated so badly? Is it because KSA is a Muslim nation? The same shameless editor of this site would have cried fowl if it was some muslim guy in India. This shows the moral, intellectual bankruptcy and mental prostitution being practiced by yellow journalists at Daiji.

Very sad. I wish and hope wisdom would prevail with saudi authorities and he would be free soon. Charity begins at home. Let affected saudi family pardon this man and let him walk free.. God is great.
